The PS2 is the best selling console of all time and probably is unaminously the best console of all time.
Yet I believe the PS3 is a far superior system and well worth the $600 I spent and is a steal at $500.
When you turn on the PS2 you have 2 options, Browser and system configuration. Browser let you view your memory cards and play the game. System configuration lets you do minor tweaking of the video settings and change the time.
That's it.
I'm guessing most everyone in this thread and who views this thread already has a PS3, and you know the PS3 absolutley murders the PS2 in terms of customization and tweakability.
Once HOME is released the PS3 will probably the first console that you could literally spend all day on and not get bored.
You can:
- Play games
- Eventually visit HOME
- Watch BD movies
- Help research cancer
- Browser the internet
- View and print Photos
- Update your PS3 to get new, cool features
- Store and Listen to music on the HDD while browsing the Internet and soon while playing games
- View Trailers and nearly every video you want on the HDD (after converting)
I have a few minor complaints, the browser for some odd reason is slower then your PC's browser and it misses some features, and the PS3 can only play MPEG files (overcome by converters but can be a pain sometimes). Hopefully .avi and .wmv support will be added soon. Also the PS3 won't read your IPOD. Something between Sony and Apple.
Sure, the game library at the moment is not legendary, but look at these
EXCLUSIVE PS3 games:
We have
- Motorstorm
- Ninja Gaiden
- Tekken
- Resistance Fall of Man
- Genji
- Great PSN games
We have coming this year:
- HOME
- Lair
- Heavenly Sword
- Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
- Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
- Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction
- Unreal Tournament 3
We have coming next year:
- Little Big Planet
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Final Fantasy vs XIII
- Gran Turismo 5
- Killzone 2
- Metal Gear Solid 4
Not only is that off the top of my head that's also not mentioning all the great multiplatform games
IMO and I'm sure that of others, if you can afford it the PS3 and Wii are the consoles to have. You can play Halo and Gears of War on PC.
I know I sound like a fanboy, and if preferring the PS3 makes me one I am, but my opinion is that the 360 doesn't have much to offer other then first person shooters and mature games like Dead Rising. The console also fails at a 33% rate and if you are asking why did you pay $600 for PS3 when the 360 was $400 the above paragraph is why.
So again, yeah, PS3 is worth $600
I rate it
8/10 if you have a
SDTV and
10/10 if you have a
HDTV. You need HD for the full experience.
