1am: woke up

2am: went for a two hour drive to Colorado Springs

4am...ish: discovered that a bunch of other people had the same idea, and a fun drive up a beautiful mountain was ruined by near stand-still traffic. These people were coming out from all over, too! Some guys I sat with claimed to be from Austria, and another nearby group sounded like they were from Ukraine or something.

27328163504_b5efd19925_b.jpg

830am: some of these people started to get a bit more enthusiastic about going for a drive than I. Maniacs! Just look what they did to the road!

Yeah, well, we'll see who has the last laugh. I got pictures of most of the hooligans and will be turning them into the authorities.

At least I had this small window of a view to look at while I paitiently waited for them to tire:

Get ready for one massive photo dump. In order of appearance:

100th Anniversary (94th running) of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
Sunday, June 26, 2016

27941030655_013c94c5f6_b.jpg

I guess this guy was just getting a feel for the track. He wasn't on it too hard, and then reported over the radio the road conditions for the bikers. There was ice near the summit at the start, so officials tried to clear that up before sending more racers out.

27839590682_58b6281f79_b.jpg

Acura was the main sponsor after Gran Turismo. This was the first of their three pace cars, which was followed up by... some sedan and SUV, I don't know or care what computer part number they were named after.

27906826006_e6a741e53b_b.jpg

I'm not huge on bikes, so I didn't capture them all. Also, excuse the zoomed-out images. It's my first time taking action shots with this camera, so I was playing it safe. And to pile on one more excuse, the best spot for spectating, Devil's Playground, was full before I got there. So I don't really have any variety in angles here... next year I'll leave earlier.

Doo doo-doo. There is an awful lot of just sitting and waiting at PPIHC. Between red flags and gaps between the drivers, it was a very long day.

This guy was being red-flagged as he rounded this corner, but he ignored it and kept on it. From what I heard, the rider before him hit a guardrail.

27327934623_177a7d58fc_b.jpg

Safety car goes up, followed shortly after by an ambulance, then a medical chopper. I believe the rider was flown to the hospital. The flagged rider is sent back down the mountain to try again.

27327931233_7ce74f7b9f_b.jpg

These guys were insane to watch! The balls on that "monkey"!

This was my view for the day. George's Corner at Cove Creek. No ground-level spectating allowed here, unfortunately.

Millen making his EV record-setting run.

27940860405_5c206d838a_b.jpg

All-electric NSX making its climb. It was almost hilarious watching any electric vehicle drive past - and there were a lot, including bikes - because on a count of no engine noise, they all had to use these sirens that sounded like cheap car alarms just so marshals, other drivers, etc could hear them coming.

27906631856_faf80a08bd_b.jpg

Open-wheelers was another class I wasn't much interested in, so I didn't take many photos of them.

Mr. Escudo himself, "Monster" Tajima in an EV. I think he placed third or so; definitely not King of the Mountain anymore.

A guy on this team told me that gray a- and c-pillar area was pretty much the only stock part of the body. The rest was carbon, some off the shelf aftermarket, some custom built.

Okay, this open-wheeler I loved. It just looks awesome, lol.

I kinda want to build a pickup truck for the street. Something small, for sure, like a Colorado would be cool.

27661782330_4defdc0707_b.jpg

The only semi there, and I think the only diesel. A car failure ahead of him meant he received a red flag pretty close to the summit. On his second run, I believe I heard over the radio that he slid off and got a DNF. One cool truck though.

Got the red flag here. Don't know why he shut the car off; it must have been carbureted because he had a hard time starting it back up.

7pm ish: the maniacs decided they were finished just as it started to snow/rain. Just my luck. I spent the next hour or so waiting for everyone to clear the mountain in turn.

10pm: got back home, covered my sun-burned face and arms in aloe, then went to sleep. One of the longest days of the year, wasted.

It is a new take on the car show. Here in Italy most of the ones that feature those types of cars are held in closed spaces. This one was being held at the Valentino park, a rather beautiful place, inside Turin.

As for the cars there was a healthy mix of production cars, starting from Astras and Meganes and going all the way to the Lykan Hypersport and Mazzanti Millecavalli, oldtimers like Ascaris Lancia D50. But the main part of the vehicles on display were prototypes or design studies from the likes of Pininfarina or Italdesign (the first 2 photos). The one after the i8 is the Asfanè Frangivento, loosely translates to windbreaker, and pursues a new type of driving relying on areodynamics.

The second half of pictures was taken in the gardens of the Reggia di Venaria, the former palace of the Savoia family, and was the final gathering point for the Gran Premio. A 20 km long stroll through the city for various types of cars.

I'll be attending an event tomorrow that I've attended a few times before, I'm not sure how quick I'll be able to get stuff off my camera and posted due to computer issues, but in the mean time, I want to show off some stuff from my past visits (hopefully that's within the guidelines of the OP).

There's this exotics showcase that goes on near me every week, basically it closes off a section of the parking lot in a little town center for a couple hours and serves as a "show off what you've got" for any and all sports/supercar owners in the area. I actually intended to make a post about this almost a year ago but files got moved around and computers crashed (and I sorta forgot about it on top of that), and I think it's still worth sharing - again, hopefully this is still within OP guidelines.

You're basically guaranteed to see a multitude of Gallardos, 911s, and GT-Rs, but it can range from base models to rare and expensive Supperlegeras, GT3s, and special/launch editions. There's some regular attendees, but you'll probably find a multitude of exciting and unexpected pieces of machinery every weekend. There's a lot more I could show, but I'm going to keep this post light on the images and just show some of the major highlights:

Starting off with a BMW 3.0 CSL:

image.jpg

Rauh-Welt:

image.jpg

Ferrari Dino (of which there were actually two, but for whatever reason I never got a shot of both sitting next to each other):

image.jpg image.jpg

Sadly this is the only shot I could find, and along side it was a classic Jag racer (no idea what it was), but here's a GT40:

image.jpg

But luckily I found plenty of the shots I got of this - an Aston Martin DBR2:

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg
image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

This particular day happened to be one of their larger "themed" days, Britain being the focus of this time around. There were a bunch of nice lotuses, even a classic Lotus 7, and quite a few Mclaren MP4s. I only saw three of them, but there were apparently eight or so Ariel Atoms scattered about, too.

I've seen pictures of Aventadors, Enzo's, F40s, Veyrons, and even a LaFerrari (apparently the only one in in Washington state) on the event's Facebook page, I don't recall if any 918s or P1s have been there, but I've never experienced them in person - I'm hoping that changes for at least one of those cars tomorrow.

All in all, it was a very nice show, with a little something for everyone. There was much more to see besides what I have here, but this gives you a good idea of some of the variety.

Went to my first track day with work on Sunday. In my interview for the job they told me they went on track days often and I was more than welcome to come along if I wanted to. Two years later, they finally booked one . Our car unfortunately broke down quite early on so I didn't get a chance to take any photos of it on track, although I did get a few rides in the silver SEAT Ibiza since the owner is a friend of the business and came with us.

Full album here.

This first one I'd actually never heard of before. It's a Ford Python, many of which were actually built here in Fort Collins, CO, which was supposed to serve as something of a new generation of Shelby Cobra. About twelve were built altogether, with seven known to still exist.

This is a rare factory "Mystic" paint. It's a color-shift, like Nissan's famous Midnight Purple series, but Ford is extremely protective of it. If you need a scratch repair or something, a guy from Ford corporate is sent out with a can of paint, verifies that your Cobra is in fact a Mystic chassis, and any paint not used is sent back to Ford with the guy. I can only assume he breaks out a big chrome pen-light to flash your memory clear of the whole event.

I made a video to accompany the photos that I took. Its the first video I've ever made. Its based the sort of videos made by Krispymedia. Please excuse the shakiness, because I don't own an expensive gimbal.
