Mercedes-Benz 300CE

Predecessor to the CLK? Much more stately here compared to the current version, but a convertible 300CE would have looked ghastly.
The C-124 is actually fairly common in my area and I owned one for about 2 months before my current sedan, the A-124 cabrio is much more rare and I've only seen 3. Awesome cars but overrated IMO I much more like the sedan

Great car-spotting day today. 72 and sunny will do that. Might as well post the highlight first:

That's an Avanti, folks - an extremely rare car whose sole U.S. dealer is right here in Atlanta. I've been hearing about them for some time, but I never did see one - thank God. I'm still not sure what they go for, but I think it's ~$60k, and I still don't know how many there are, but it can't be many. This is Panoz Esperante rare, except without the Panoz Esperante panache. More shots:

For those of you who know the history of the car and the Avanti brand, you'll know the sighting. It's a very odd one, and it'll probably never happen again. Fulton County, Georgia plates - that's the city of Atlanta. The Avanti dealer is in Clayton County, about 20 minutes away.

OTHER STUFF

Acura Integra Type-R

Aston-Martin DB9
Aston-Martin DB9 Volante (1 2) [Florida plates]
Aston-Martin DB9 Volante (1 2)

Bentley Arnage (1 2 3) [Tennesee plates DR JWW3]
Bentley Continental GT
Bentley Continental GT [New York plates]

Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport (1 2 3) [!!!!]

Ferrari F430

Lotus Exige (1 2)

Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT

Mazda RX-7 III

Mercedes SL65 AMG (1 2)

Toyota Supra MkIV

Here are some interesting shots, too:

arnage_corniche-022207.jpg

In the first shot, I got the DB9 and the Exige, but that wasn't so weird since I have separate pictures of them too. But that photo was unplanned. In the second shot, I was running down the road chasing the Arnage T and in the back you'll see a Rolls-Royce Corniche - which I didn't notice until I uploaded. This is the first time this has happened with a car as good as the Corniche - it's crazy! I have a lot of strategy for spotting cars, but it goes out the windown when I run down the street chasing after them - imagine if a Veyron had been coming up the road!

Perhaps the best shot of the day:

More car spotting to come Saturday - this was a mid-week treat for you all. :D

I have always liked the black wheels on the Grand Sport. The F430 looks great in black with the black wheels. The Exige also looks surprisingly good in white. I guess I just expected it to only look so-so in white.

There's a yellow one in Denver that I see quite often, but it's running stock 96-~00 HSE wheels, not the present ones. I thought it was unique. How odd!

Every so often we see the same odd (if not exactly special) car at around the same time. I don't mean some random Ferrari, but oddballs like this LR or the G500 ragtop. :D

M5Power
They made a convertible 300CE - have you ever seen one, or were you speaking theoretically?

I was speaking theoretically, I guess, since I didn't think Mercedes produced any. Having seen photos after some searching, it looks somewhat okay with the top down, but it's a poster child for hard-top convertibles with the top up.

The CLK-GTR is incredible, but since only 35 were made it's hard to compare it to mass-produced stuff like the SL, or the more brilliant CLK55.

The CLK55 is brilliant? Maybe in sales, since it appears to be second in AMG popularity only to the SL55, but I think it's an odd middle child between the SL55 and SLK55 (which desperately needs a 6MT, even a poor one).

I posted a 60's-era Avanti some time ago. Are the old ones as rare as the new ones?

Really nice. The Corvette Grand Sport may be the best of the day...or week. It's certainly my favorite. I'm convinced there's one around me somewhere, since I see a blue C4 with black wheels racing away every so often, but I never get to see the front end.

Do you like American music? I like American music:

Ford Mustang 289 1965

Just like the LR from before, this is an unusual color. The license plate is cool, too. Real good restoration.

International CXT

Biggest pickup I have ever seen. First time I saw it, I brushed it off thinking it was a semi without a trailer. Check out the Wrangler behind it; the CXT simply dwarfs it.

Lincoln Zephyr

Who said no one bought the Zephyr? ;)

Wow never knew Studebaker Avanti were copyied, Originals look better IMO.

Nice spotting.

It's true - and be honest - we're probably the only two people in the country that have seen a yellow '96-'02 Rover and a G500 convertible. I'll see the Rover again this summer provided it still exists and get a shot - how weird!

I saw one today but couldn't get a picture for you - I'll try for one Saturday. Usually I see them with rims, this being Atlanta, but this one was bone stock. Oh well. You can always look it up on AutoTrader I suppose, but where's the fun in that?

In sales?! The CLK55 is the slowest-selling AMG! How many of these do you see?!

I posted a 60's-era Avanti some time ago. Are the old ones as rare as the new ones?

No - I'll see two or three old ones a year. The new ones are positively impossible. For a reason though - they evidently run on F-body chassis, and I got a glimpse inside - looks like the interior's not much changed either. But it runs a 4.6-liter V8, which must be Ford-sourced. I don't know what my point is here, but I'd be super surprised if more than 200 of these monstrosities exist.

This is the first one I've ever seen.

Me - that one's a figment of your imagination. International CXT - what are the circumstances behind that? Was it privately-owned, or did a company have it? Details dammit!

I saw a Bently coupé thing yesterday. Don't know the exact type.

- @ M5power: I still don't get it how you manage to post so much photos everyday. I'm going to call you GTP' s official car chaser. :)

I can't wait to get a car down here - this city has so many incredible cars on a daily basis it astonishes me. I don't know what I'd do in Dubai or Monaco (or even LA).

Well I saw a Bentley Arnage on the campus today. I am sure it is some donor's, though I have no idea what specific model it was. I also did not have a chance to take a picture of it, though I have a picture or two of it on my phone. I will have to check later when I am a little more adequate to do so . . .

Lancia Monte Carlo!!! One of so very few Lancias sold in the U.S. I haven't seen one for over a year, though. Interesting spots!

I was coming home today from a rugby match in leicster and saw these:
Audi S6 AVANT
RS4 AVANT
RS4
Bentley arnage T
Ferrari 360 spider
What a bunch of nice cars:drool:
sorry that i don't have any photos my batteries ran out.

Monaco, you'd probably fall in love with all the F355/355s around as I think I remember you saying they were one of your favorite Ferrari designs.

Other than that, you'd spend half the time picking out the Mercedes, and Ferrari 355/F355s and 360s. Anything else just kind of pops up, and leaves since most of the supercar owners live a couple miles out of the province.

Indeed, but they're around - I've heard around 20 Enzos in the immediate vicinity. I believe F-chat agreed upon seventeen. Can you imagine?!

I had a great sighting day today, but I'm so tired I might die. I'll get the stuff posted in a little while.

If you stay for a week during the vacation points in the year, I'll guarantee you you'll see something like an Enzo. The vacation weeks are the best time to go because its when the owners really bring out the cars while they take the wives shopping.

Yeah - incredible quality. Interesting spot too - where in Virginia are you?

Yorktown/Newport News/Hampton area. It was actually in the parking lot at a restaurant I manage part time. One of our guests was driving it, I didn't have a chance to speak to him as I was busy with other things but he was wearing a RR polo shirt so it wasn't hard to spot him.

 Repping the RR Polo, the RR vanity plates, and perhaps best of all - the 15 year old RR. :D

An Arnage?! In Oklahoma?!

Yes, an Arnage in Oklahoma. In fact, this is the second time I have seen that particular car. I had seen it on campus sometime my sophmore year. It is a dark blue color. The color suits the car very well. It is probably around the blue color of the Sagaris in daan's pictures that he just posted, maybe a little darker.

I have seen two other Arnages in Oklahoma previously also. One of them had just barely caught my eye and was burgandy in color. I barely had a chance to see it. The other I do not remember the color of or even where it was at, just that I had seen another one.

Oklahoma tags on all of these? I can't imagine there are too many exotics like this in Oklahoma - any Ferraris or Lamborghinis you're aware of?
