The silver Gallardo is actually a different one from the one I posted the other day - its calipers are yellow and its plates are different. Still a crazy design though!

I have never seen a Z8 in the metal, yet you see so many!

Fifteen Z8s now. One interesting thing about the Z8 has been that, in the past, Atlanta has shyed away from them while Denver has embraced them with open arms. Prior to the last month, I had seen twelve Z8s, ten in Denver. Compare that with 24 Gallardo coupes; eight in Denver, and 13 F430 coupes, four in Denver. The reason for that is simple: Atlanta loves showing off, while Denver is content with the more sublime supercars. That may explain why you don't see too many in Hong Kong.

That said in the last month I've seen three Z8s locally which changes the numbers a bit - but they're still nowhere near as skewed towards Atlanta as other showy supercars.

A more likely explanation would be that the Z8 wasn't available in RHD.

Ah, as simple as that eh! Oh well, there's probably a couple on dealer plates around, but I guess I'm not going to see one anytime soon.

They probably do (There was a Cadillac Brougham, for the sake of Pete,) but, like Corvettes in Britain, it's not popular for that reason.

Wait... Corvettes in Britain are left-hand-drive?

Yep. Corvettes everywhere are LHD, unless you've paid a lot of money to put the steering wheel on the other side. In Japan, it's a status symbol to have the wheel on the left and get out on the kerb - so there are quite a few Corvettes and Camaros in Japan. Everywhere else views it as what it is, a bloody annoyance you have to be slightly mentally unbalanced to deal with. Hence me owning a VW Golf Rallye for years and now two funking great American V8 sixties icons. Go figure.

The only RHD 'American' car of the 60's era of note* was the 64/65 Mustang, and we didn't buy it, so they stopped making them. Camaros were made in Belgium, but they were all LHD.

Chrysler 300C is RHD, and we get the Touring version - your Dodge Magnum. I like the Magnum, but I like the 300C Touring more - with a small amount of Pimpage, it looks just plain nasty. :D

* YMMV. If you think there was another RHD 'American' car of note, let us all know.

That was my original guess, but the XLR is a luxury-like convertible. There's nothing luxury in a Viper, though.

Indeed, but both fill somewhat close to the same price point, they look similar, they're both hugely powerful rear-drive coupes, they both have look-at-me styling, and they're both brands' halo cars.

After spending quite a few hours the past couple of days driving around looking for cars I really have not come up with much. It makes one really see what some of our members, especially Doug, go through to get some top notch spots.

Anyways here is what I was able to get, pretty uninspiring.

New Mercedes C-Class, first one I have seen on the road:

Costly too - I get gas every three days, give or take.

I have a standing offer to any reputable poster in the area to go on a car spotting excursion! Frankly I could use the company sometimes!

Not anything super good, but a few pictures I thought were interesting and fun.

First up, I parked next to a Smart car to show how small this car really is. Keep in mind that my car is tiny to start with, but looks like a Hummer next to this thing.

Next I parked next to a SanngYOngngsg Rexton (Or something) solely to prove that it is the ugliest car made.

Then I thought how a few of you guys go crazy over seeing Skylines. So here is 2 parked next to each other.

Then to finish the night I found something half decent, but cameraphone + night = bad shot. But it's here none the less.

Do they not allow left-hand drive cars in Hong Kong?

You are not allowed to register an LHD car as a private vehicle in Hong Kong. People get round the loophole by keeping the car on dealer plates, hence the pictures of the Carrera GT, Stradales, F50, etc. all having dealer plates on.

New Zealand has a strange mish-mash of laws when it comes to LHD cars:

A motor car or goods service vehicle that meets all of the following criteria:

  • A gross vehicle mass of not more than 3,500 kilograms
  • Imported by you, for your own personal use
  • Manufactured less than 20 years before the date it was imported
  • You have registered, owned and operated the vehicle overseas, for 90 days or more
  • In a five-year period, you can only register one such vehicle in New Zealand
  • The vehicle must be registered in the importer’s name (i.e. your name) for at least five years after it’s first registration in New Zealand unless the vehicle is 20 years old or more.

Which means this guy will have to own his C5 vette for a least 5 years:

I may take you up on that, assuming I qualify as reputable. I could use a break from the sunny-but-cold of New England, and as is evidenced by my recent lack of posts here, I could use a breath of fresh hydrocarbons. I'm changing jobs soon and will probably take a long weekend between them. Bringing out the STI for a nice road trip (less than 1,000 miles in the last 6 months) sounds like a good idea.

I've decided to get up with you as soon as I get a gas check from my insurance company. I'm sure I don't need much money to just cruise around and stuff. I just wouldn't feel worth a damn riding through Buckhead with $50.
