Whats the diffeence between the MDR-51, -71, -81 earphones?

I saw them in my local shop and the earbuds look similar but price are different.

EX51 = Oldest
EX81 = Newest
EX71 = In the middle

Bear in mind the cord on the EX71's are very thin and soft. The insulation ripped on mine after 3 months.

Oh.....I see.

In the ither hand, does anyone know about the philips active noise cancelling earphones(model HN060)?

I saw it in my local store and its around the same price as those sony headphones.

These are possible replacements in my budget right now, so if there are any other good earphones around this price range, kindly recommend.

I use the EX71s. They're very very good, but as GTRacer4 says, they do have a finite lifespan. I am on my second pair, the first lost a phone after about 18 months.

A UK hi-fi magazine recently slated them, in a way which makes me think that they weren't actually wearing them properly. They said that the 'phones were tinny, and lacking bass, which is symptomatic of not having them far enough into your ear. They recommend the Sennheiser PXT-100s

There's one similarity though... They all suck ass big time. :lol:

Oh no... they are very right on the money, especially at the prices they are asking. :sick: You mean PX-100s right? I recommend PX-200s. :D

I just bought a pair of Shure E2c's as a replacement. Much, much better in both build and sound quality. They're expensive, but I got them pretty cheaply.

Well, did some research and found out that the only difference between 51 and 71 are the cords.

Im gonna get the 51 just to try out if I like these in-ear thingys.

:)

You'll like them, they block out lots of noise.

:odd: The only thing I found to be true according to people's review is the comfort other than that, I don't know what people were smoking...

Well, got myself a pair of 51ex.

It fits snugly and outside noise is visibly reduced.

Sound quality wise, not much differece from my OEM creatives except it sounds clearer and bass a bit more pronounced.

But 1 thing I really like is when i wear it on my bike, wind noise is cut out! 👍

Disadvantege is when wearing it, you cannot speak because your voice will resonate inside you ear and its irritating.

They'll begin to sound better once you've 'burned them in'.

Don't eat anything crunchy with them in though. It hurts.

I have the Sony MDR-931 - And while I love their sound - The wire has a cloth outerlayer - which is ******* annoying... If you sit still, it's ok, but as soon as you move around, the cloth outer scratches on your clothes and it resonates all the way into the earpiece... :grumpy:

I cannot even sing along :grumpy:

But i think once i get used to the sound(bass), It'll be hard to go back to ordinary earphones.

It is mate. I have a Rio Carbon with a broken screen and a pair of MDR EX71 headphones. I love them so much.... except for that damned insulation. It ripped mostly due to my own fault, and then dissintegrated from there. Of course, I wore them every day in the summer on my bike....... sweat and whatnot all the time.

Just make sure the inside of your ear stays dry and keep the earwax out of the headphones and you'll be good.

I'm not a fan of Sony headphones. They can't handle loud music while maintaining good bottom-end quality.

If you're looking for a good pair with excellent range at any volume, then try a pair of Koss Pro3 or Pro4 titanium headphones. I've owned the same pair for 4+ years, they've never failed me, and they have a lifetime warranty-in case they ever do.

They're a bit pricey: $70 for the Pro3's and $100 for the Pro4's, but worth every penny.

I would like to get a better pair but the sonys are the only phones in my price range.

Well, at least I know I like in-ear types and my next pair will definitely be an in-ear headphone. :)

I have yet to find a comfortable in-ear canal phone for me. Every pair I've ever tried is either comfortable only on one side, or not comfortable at all.

Well, it works for me.

And now im 'relistening' to my music. Also realised how crappy those OEM phones are :crazy: which i use to think was pretty good.
