Differences between the US/Jpn versions

(Does this forum load slows as an 85yr old man getting dressed in the morning, or is it just me?)

Since Enthusia came down to 20bucks, i bought the US version as well. I didn't think that there would be any significant differences, but then, i've been wrong before.

The problem with the US version is that when accelerating using the analog stick, there's barely any in-between. That is to say, the acceleration isn't all that analog in the first place. You go from 20% to 100% acceleration. This makes it very difficult to finesse the handling and perform smooth drifts. The game is not very good with the joystick, certainly not as great as the Jpn version since i can play taht with the DS:2 with no problem at all.

I don't know if in the JPN game you can calibrate the wheel, but i was surprised to see it in the US version. AFter i calibrated it, i tried playing using the strongest feedback of the wheel after someone here said the game was much better this way. I found it very hard to control most cars adn drifting was...not good. I suspect, however, that it's got something to do with my crappy setup.

When i put the wheel to its weakest setting it felt too soft. I went to the game and used medium and it seemed fine. Still though, it feels different from teh JPN version. I think it's a shame because most US players that only use the controller will never know how great this game is.

There was complaint of the analog throttle stateside, but that's not one of the main reasons why the game bombed. Consumers and videogame reviewers simply found it too difficult to make it around a track without spinning out or understeering into a wall, and blamed the game instead of themselves. They also moaned and whined about the confusing Enthusia Life mode and the "terrible racing lines" of Driving Revolution (yes, almost every review I've read assumed that every DR level was a racing line tutorial).

Even though I have finally acquired a DFP from a friend, and I own the ntsc-us version, I still prefer to play with the DS2. It's easier to set up than the wheel (pick up the controller and play :lol: ), and Live for Speed spoils me with its dashboard view that moves to simulate G-forces, so sometimes I lose track of what the car is doing in Enthusia. I use the X and square buttons anyway, and those provide enough control for me. :)

Anyway what you found seems to be one of the biggest reasons the game got poor reviews, I also wonder if Enthusia is more popular in Japan because of this, and at least some attempts at appropriate marketing (BMI videos).

Are there any differences to the car lineups? I'd really like to see a Toyota Chaser, Verossas, Sil-Eighties, Cefiros etc. etc. Are any of these cars featured in the Japanese version of the game?

No difference in car lineups i'm afraid. In fact they don't even localize a lot of Japanese cars. For example, the GS3 is an Aristo in the US version.
