LMAO, Doug!

I'm assuming Blackbird was talking to me, so, ah, Thanks!

Doug,
How do you know front plates are a requirement where that car is located?

Assuming the vehicle is located in Wisconsin, where the poster is located, two license plates are a requirement, which is a shame because Wisconsin has the single ugliest license plate of any North American jurisdiction, Mexico and Canada included.

Really? I've always thought Hawaii's was pretty awful. Kentucky, too.

It gets no worse:

Hell, if I wanted a design that was already outdated when it was released in the 1980s, I could go to a Jaguar dealer.

I personally enjoy Hawaii's, simply because seeing one (and the accompanying bumper sticker) is such a thrill. People knock Kentucky's smiling sun, but at least it's colorful, unlike some midwestern states north of Illinois.

A little late here, but,

One of those (Grand Sport) was at the strip two times ago. And of course, I owned one, but disliked it strongly. Great shot though - those things are rarer than God.

Mercedes S65 AMG - second-most expensive Mercedes ever

Ferrari F355 Spider

Coolest off-the shelf license plate number ever

Actually, the SL65 ($185k) and CL65 ($180k) are more expensive than the S65 ($169k), making it the 4th most expensive Merc sold today.

Looks like a 356A ('55 - '59) Cool little cars.
Odds are, it's a fake, though.
My friends dad owns a real 356. It's pretty cool.

Also, why does that F355 have 360Modena/Spider wheels?

I know, I hate it.

Here's the Porsche 911 I beat while driving a 1996 Volvo 850 Turbo sedan:

Some might ask "how could a Volvo beat a 911?!" Actually it's not so hard - that was a base model 911 with (likely) a Tiptronic automatic transmission. Driven properly, those vehicles do 0-60 in 6.3 seconds against the 850's 7.1. We got up to 70mph, with the Volvo pulling ahead. But in that sprint, he shifted three times (which is why I originally figured it was a manual). Since he peaks at around 6800rpm, had he been driving properly he really should've only shifted once - my guess is he got a little carried away with Tiptronic and shifted at about 3350rpm each time, not allowing his car to produce full power or anything near. Given the weights of each vehicle (3120lbs 911 vs. 3278lbs Volvo) it's perfectly reasonable to assume he accidentally limited his car's power to about 200bhp allowing the Volvo (with 222bhp) to win. Furthermore, I knew the sequence of the light we were sitting at allowing me to power-brake - virtually eliminating my turbo lag - while he simply idled forward.

That said, I beat a Porsche in a Volvo, and however I did it, it was still one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. :D

Actually, you didn't say what year or generation it was.

I wasn't sure, because form that angle, and in that pic, I couldn't tell if it was a 964/993 or 996. The wheels made me think 993, but like that [fugly] F355, you can't use that as a full determination of what year it was.

:)

Should be pretty obvious from the wheels. Given the condition of the exterior, and the driver's age, I'd guess it was a 1995, the first year of the vehicle. It had Colorado JCH license plates, meaning it was registered in Denver in late 2003.

Are you sure the Porsche knew you were racing?

Yeah, considering we hit 70mph in a 35 then both braked like crazy until we were back down to the speed limit. No question - I've been in hundreds of street races, I know when it's going down.

McLarenF1 GTR
M5, you haven't seen a 575 SuperAmerica yet, have you?

SuperAmerica my ass - I haven't even seen a 575 yet. Two 550's, no pictures (although I did post that awful night shot of one of them somewhere in this thread, so I guess I have one picture). No 612s either. Yes I've seen two C-GTs and there's a Maserati on every corner. Explain that one.

Factually, it's just f-ed up that you see so many Masers, they made WAY more 360s than them. (Production count fot the 360 is 10000 Modenas+CS's, 7500 Spiders)

I've seen several 575s. More 575s than 550s, actually.
Superamerica delivery just started, though.

I saw another Maserati coupe this week at the valet stand. I just drove right by it, didn't even bother with a picture. I'm done taking pictures of common cars. Hell, the Ferrari dealer has about six in stock.

Today at the mall saw a car that has the license plate "WTFLIP" ("What the flip?")

And BWHAHAHA! Doug bet you've never seen a Maybach 62 before! :sly:

In the next year, I would like to have seen and photographed the "big five" expensive cars on the road in Colorado:

- Ferrari Enzo
- Maybach (either)
- McLaren Mercedes SLR
- Porsche Carrera GT
- Rolls-Royce Phantom

Right now I'm two for five (C-GT and Phantom) and I have seen an Enzo inside the service bay at Ferrari of Denver, meaning such a vehicle exists in Colorado. I'm confident I can see a Maybach in Denver, too, since we have one of the largest Mercedes dealers in the country, but I don't know that I'll ever see an SLR McLaren.

Wait...dealers don't count do they?
D*mn, when I got home, I thought I might have finally seen something you hadn't.
Foiled......again.

Do you have giant 5 story garage on your Mercedes dealer? :D

You have to come to Toronto to do some serious car spotting, M5.

I've already seen two SLRs on the road here, and my friend has seen a third one in the Niagra region just south of Toronto. We also have as many as 6 Enzos in the area, although I have never seen one on the road. There could also be at least one Carerra GT in Toronto; the same friend saw it once parked at a hotel near Bloor and Yonge(very expensive area). I wrote up a massive post on that day, because once I managed to get down there, I saw 11 Ferraris, among a crapload of other great cars(I missed the Carerra GT by 5 minutes though). I have also seen two Maybachs near my house. One is owned by the same guy who owns one of the SLRs in Toronto. As for Rolls Phantoms, at least one is owned by a real estate developer here, and they have two in the dealership at Bloor.

I also did see a 575 a few days ago, and I have seen two 612s on the street, one of which was just outside the Ferrari dealership on Bloor. Also, there was an F40 and an MC12 parked inside the Ferrari dealership on Steeles Ave. I'm not sure if they're still there though, since they seem to change the cars they have on display upstairs every month or so. But, they do have a 575 Barchetta on permanent display there. And, at the Steeles dealership, I also once saw a Shelby GT500. Probably one of the last places I would have expected to see one.

Never - otherwise I'd add that Enzo to my list.

Do you have giant 5 story garage on your Mercedes dealer?

No, but our region's principal Mercedes dealer, Glauser Mercedes, is by far the largest Mercedes dealer in the region, and it's actually relatively young.

See cars or remain in an actual country? Hmm... :p

Plus - Los Angeles and San Francisco will kick Toronto's ass any day of the week; California is just unbeatable. But I do my best with the circumstances presented to me.

I was thinking this wasn't real, because real ones are worth like $500k, but Carroll Shelby signed it. Anyone want to give their opinion? Or some fact? It was at a show along with three replicas, and it looked a lot more worn and aged than those three. NOTE: this is Sage's favorite car.

BY THE WAY: Duke, you're off the hook on the ACR numbers if you can tell me whether the Cobra is real.

I'm 99.9% sure that this is a replica, The body looks glassfibre (the detailing around the hood) the rest of the cars 'detailing' is extremely poor - those wheels, that role hoop, that interior, the grills etc are just plain wrong - really wrong. Somebody has written Shelby's name on the dash...

I think the biggest give away though is the auto gearbox ;)

I could be completely wrong, it could be the genuine article. But if this is the case then the owners done a very good job of making it look exactly like a poorly finished $15k replica.

I've been to LA, but that was 4 years ago. But, I guarantee Toronto could hold it's own against LA; you can't go more than 5 minutes without seeing, say, an AMG tuned Merc for instance. Porsches (real Porsches, the Cayenne doesn't count) are a dime a dozen in T.O. (not literally).

Although on the other hand, you can't go more than 5 minutes without seeing one of those dreadful new GM minivans... and I've only seen two since I got to Ottawa yesterday (and it's not like I've been a shut-in either. I must have done around 3 hours of walking around town today). I think Toronto has an obsession with crappy cars made by GM (Sunfires, Cavaliers, and older GM minivans are also very common). So really, it's a mix of the really good, and the absolutely dreadful. But, it's easy to ignore dreadful cars.

Sunfires and Cavaliers are omnipresent on this end of the country, too. Three of my friends have cars and they're all J-bodies (2 Sunfires and a Cavalier). I have yet to see any of the minivan quadruplets though.
