Is there a reason that some of the cars in this game are so categorically bad despite their real life counterparts being quite great drivers? It just doesn't seem like the sort of discrepancy that should come from a game billed as the "Real Driving Simulator"

GT is a sim, but it's not a very high end one. You could probably search for a bunch of topics on the accuracy of the simulation.

Some cars just outright have the wrong data used to model them. In other cases, the GT physics engine is incapable of replicating reality. Careless errors are the fault of PD, but even without those, they could only go so far on a console with a game that's supposed to have mass appeal.

Any particular examples?

Saleen S7 and Speed 12 are probably the ultimate ones.

I don't mean any offense, but I have to assume that you don't actually own either of these. In which case, we all need more evidence that the game isn't modeling them correctly. Otherwise, this is, as I said, troll bait.

I'm sure if anyone goes to Google they will find reviews that would say 'lively', 'twitchy', 'a handful', and a 'bit of oversteer' to describe these cars. I find them to be as I would expect in this game.

Saleen is the one I agree with, but it's not undriveable, it just feels on ice. As if they missed the grip levels for it completly.
With Speed 12 I disagree, it was known to be an undriveable car (too much power, too high center of weight).

Didn't they only make one or two Speed 12s, purely for attempting to be the fastest production car, but then the project fell through?

That could be why it's a bit of a handful.

In particular, the Speed12 was deemed too dangerous for production and completely unmanageable. Tuning can fix that, but the actual car is a monster.

I'm sorry, but what does 'troll bait' mean?

Good. Thought that was directed at me. Most faults can be driven through when you change your driving style. Of coarse a GT-R is gonna handle like junk if you don't know what you're doing.

Can the op please give some examples of these "undrivable" cars?

His were the s7 and speed 12. Tvr has already been covered.

DS3 or wheel? That could explain a lot.

Nah, I use a DS3 and am competitive.

Sorry
Most of what I am talking about are vintage cars, which I do have extensive driving experience in. The first couple that come to mind are the GT350, Cobra, BMW 2002, and Spitfire, all of which I have either raced or driven in the real world, but have fits with in this game generally speaking.

Why do I need to own them?

It's physically impossible get the S7 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds in GT5. Both it and the Speed 12 act like they their rear tires are on their last legs. There are performance cars, one of which has been shown capable of at least accelerating, yet in the game they probably could not handle an engine swap with a Camry.

The S7 also has no downforce despite the real car having downforce.

Speed 12 I disagree, it was known to be an undriveable car (too much power, too high center of weight).

The issue with the 12 doesn't have anything to do with the handling. The car can't even get started. You could power limit it to some modest level of hp that a regular budget sports car could handle and it would still be out performed.

The McLaren MP4-12C seems to have strange handling to me. In real life it's meant to be extremely grippy and fast, but to me, in GT5 it's slidy and comparitively slow. That may be because of my driving style and because I use a DS3 though.

The RUF Yellowbird, almost undrivable. I do love driving it, its a challenge. It's fast too, but hold on for that oversteer, you will be white knuckling it around the track. whoo hoo!

The Lister Storm V12 comes to mind here. Its a GT car. But it gets blown away by every other car in the game! It built to race the corvettes and vipers but it has a turning radius and weight of an elephant. Why PD? This car did alright IRL.

Just tried the S7 on wheel and wow... possibly one of the best cars I've driven, so much grip... hell, I've even had to put some comforts on it to be more suited to my liking. Great car, just great.

alright, who drives the Hyundai HDC6 ?

The undrivable winner is Hyundai HDC6 <- That car i won't drive ever! it stays on peoples dusted collection. I didn't even bother to switch it - now that's what you call "undrivable" - korean chicks will not even bother looking at you :dopey:

Go drive it yourself and we wanna hear your thoughts.

How does it compare to the one in your driveway?

Oh... you mean just in the game? Sorry, but 1) the engine is behind the rear axle. You respect that or you lose. 2) I've seen several people handle that car just fine. I have to suspect you have a PEBCAW issue. I could be wrong.

I think there are several people in this thread, particularly the OP, that think these expensive cars should be magical. They were hard to handle in real life, and they are hard to handle in the game.

Not sure about "undrivable" cars in the game as most can be tuned for decent performance. However, certain cars seem to perform better in game and be more driver friendly whether stock or tuned than their real life counterparts.

Case in point the McLaren F1. I remember reading reviews of it when it first came out and how Formula 1 drivers said yes it had phenomenal performance but that it was a scary car to drive near its limits and that the average exotic car owner was likely to destroy both the car and themselves if they attempted to drive it hard. Yet in the game it is a favorite that many use because of its speed and ease of use.

Def the Hyundai hdc6 drop as low as it will go and it will still roll over if you turn hard. Lol
