Direct Keyboard Chat?

Because I do not yet have a mic, I use the keyboard a lot to communicate with other players. But it's really annoying to stop, pause, hit the chat button and create my message. But a couple times, I accidentally hit a button on my keyboard and instantly a chat box opened up, while still racing. I tried but I can't re-create this scenario again. Is there a button on the keyboard that instantly opens up a chat box so that you don't have to pause?

It should work by hitting enter while at the in race menu. Then you type your message.

Pretty sure he's right. I use a keyboard too, and I remember hitting enter during a race to send a message.

For me it's the other way around
I have to pause, then hit a letter, THEN start typing...
