Guys, if you havent downloaded Dirt 2 yet, go get it!
this game is awesome fun.

the first Dirt game was the game that really got me hooked onto racing games. Dirt had graphics that are just amazingly realistic, but unfortunately the physics was ridiculously crap. I had the PC version so luckily i could modify the game physics by editing the config files to make the physics better (more on that below)

Dirt 2 has even more amazing graphics, now its even got water puddles that splash onto the windscreen.

1. The physics has improved dramatically compared to dirt1. in dirt1 I had to modify all the settings using scripts (you can do this with the PC version) to make the car slide more and reduce the breaking power etc. in order to make it more realistic - making over and understeer more realistic, and also reducing the on/off switch effect of the gas/break. With dirt2, the physics are great out of the box. no more tinkering. (i have to say tho, no matter how much the tinkering dirt2 physics was better)

2. the ps3 version of dirt 2 supports the 900 degrees racing wheels, dirt 1 only allowed for 180 degrees on ps3. This was never a problem with the PC version tho, with a bit of tinkering of the logitech profiler you can set it to 900.

3. graphics have improved, now its not just dirt and mud and dust, it also now has water and splashes. the scenary is also quite impressive, in some ways this game does have better graphics than gt5p, the resoluion is not as high, but the amount of effects combined together makes it feel very realistic. eg the shadows in-car view are not blocky like in gt5p. and the movements of the camera while you are driving in-car really does make you feel like you are being chucked around eg due to the bumps or due to centrifugal forces of sharp turns.

4. gt5p probably implements the H-gate manual better in that you need to use the clutch to shift. in dirt 2, you can use the H gate without clutching.

5. the acceleration and breaking is now modulated and feels right compared to dirt 1, previously in dirt 1 they were on / off switches.

6. over and understeer now also feels a lot more real, sure does feel slippery due to the dirt and mud, rally style. not sure what its like in RL but this feels about right.

7. car exteriors are not as detailed as in gt5p, surroundings are also not as detailed. but dirt seems to use high levels of post processing and HDR and possibly using AA very well, as nothing in the game looks blocky at all. (gt5p on the otherhand is blocky everywhere).

8. This is rally racing rather than GT racing so i guess cant really compare the two, but then i did compare F1 CE to GT5P previously. and once again as with F1CE there is much more of a 'racing' feel to the game. whereas gt5p just feels so 'clean' and comfortable.

9. I still think that if you want to learn about motorsport/racing, then F1CE is the game for you. If you want to learn how to drive with the proper techniques then GT5P is it. And if you just want plain fun but with decent physics (better than arcade style physics - much improved here in dirt2) then dirt2 is it.

10. yep so the conclusion is, you really need all 3 games to complete your collection to be a true motorhead. =)

Demo avaible for PS3?

Edit: I'm downloading it right now. I'll report about gam later. Does Dirt2demo supports wheel? Because F1CE demo didn't.

Yep.👍
Just tried it, not bad especially online is fun. The physics are very arcadey, but certainly better than grid and dirt1 IMO ...
I just don't know how the ego-engine (that's how it's called ?) shall work for F1 game :scared:

I've got the demo on now, just played both the tracks and it seems pretty good!

As said though, very arcadey but still good fun! Now off to try online :D

Just to add, it supports wheels, my DFGT works fine with it and it's not bad with the FF turned all the way up! The bumpiness of the road is conveyed well through the wheel and the sense of grip is ok

Does anyone have any ideas as to when it will be available in the US PSN Store ?

Well I've tried it, very arcadey, lot of fun, good damage modeling. Level of difficultys are good, actually in harder level cars are almost undefeatable (playing on controller).

Make an account as you were living in UK.

Well, as far as I am concerned it will support 900. Remember this is just a demo and nope it doesn't feel arcade at all, it feels pretty good I must say. Can't wait to try the full version with all the features in it.

On my Driving Force Pro only the left light was on so no 900°..

Yeah, I tried it and it did that to me too. But it is playable with only 180 degrees of rotation, more than DiRT 1. This will may be a buy for me. It looks awesome props to codemaster.

Im sorry but whats so arcadey about it, feels rather realistic to me?

when I think arcadey I think of grid :P

What's realistic about it? It's not simulating how a real car would react and feel. Was hoping that was the case though. No game for me, not going to buy it.

Ive driven some offroad and the basic realism is there, I havent tried many other offroad games, but for now it feels like the best ive tried.

downloaded it on thursday, my first impressions were it looked a lot like pro street graphically....

but the gameplay is arcadey which is a good thing as anyone can join in and play

Not 100% sure, but a qualifyed gues would be next Thursday. Sometimes the demo's are released a week earlyer on one store ( its often the US store that have them first though)

Also its not on all EU stores, Denmark still dosent have it eather.

its not on EU store.. its only on UK.. i was in need to make an UK account to get it

Trying desperately to find the link to the demo to download for my ps3 but can't seem to find it ... any help to the proper linkage please? Thanks 👍

Create UK account. It will take you less than 5 minutes.
