The reason developers stay away from sims and rather do arcade is because they are cheaper to make, require less time and recourses to make so they can pump out a new game every year, the risk there is that they run the game into the ground and people just loose interest. As what happened with the dirt series.

I myself will not be getting another dirt game. Dirt 3 may have had more rally but to me redoing the same events in different seasons does not equal more content or fun. As well the DLC did not offer anything to the game.
Montecarlo was cool but a couple of days into it I lost interest as it was way too short.

Dirt 3 was fun for a while but nothing more. 👎

I don't think they are cheaper to make. It just much more sense for them to make a game that sim racers and arcade type racers will both buy. The reason Froza and GT sell so many copies is because of their brand. It has much more to do with that then being a great sim. They were both solid games before there were any solid racing games on the market. If sims sold great, then the PC games would sell millions of copies, because they are way ahead of what GT and forza do. Developers want to make money, so if they can make it just hard enough to make people believe it's a sim, and throw in just enough crap to make arcade racers think it's fun, then they make big time money.

That's one opinion. I'll give you another. I actually love their F1 games and I think Studio liverpools was an absolute joke.

Well F1-CE is widely regarded as the most realistic and accurate F1 simulation on consoles ever but its your personal opinion if you don't agree.

What part of "on rails handling" is realistic to you? It was an absolute arcade game. I played it for hundreds of hours, but it has since been permanently placed in the shelf. Personal preferences and everything, but F1 CE was not realistic at all. At least you can actually correct oversteer and understeer in F12011. Something completely missed in F1:CE.

I have a feeling that the reason most people like F1:CE is due to the slicker presentation, because it was not realistic at all. And don't get me started on that little pit minigame. Or how erratic the A.I drive (especially under braking).

Its your opinion.. mine is diferent and so is his... you got to respect that... even if you work for codemasters. IMO F1 CE had better physics all around. Ive recently sold my copy of F1 2010 and kept F1 CE... much more enjoyable IMO

I also didnt like the pit minigame or the oil spots on the track... or not being able to save between sessions but the most of the rest was as good or better...

I can respect other opinions, but when someone posts that it was widely regarded to be the most realistic F1 game, I'd like to see proof of that. It was basically a rush job and did not compare to any simulators I've tried.

It was just another rehash of the ps2 games. Fair enough if that's what you like, but the game was a straight up arcade game.

These quote confuse me....

"drop the dirt name as every kid out there knows that dirt stands for fun kid arcade game and that's the crowd it will attract and that's the crowed that the game is going to cater to".

and...

"The problem is that the dirt series has sold well."

Think about those for a while.....

Yes but the fact remains that dirt 2 out sold dirt 3 by almost double in the same time span.
I just checked the figures and dirt 2 sold 866 860 units in ten weeks from release while dirt 3 only sold 494 085 in the same time span.
I'm on my phone so can't link to the figures.

You can tell that if you cater to average gamers they will lose interest in the series while more loyal fans of a game series will stick with the game until (like in the dirt series games) they totally ignored the fans and instead went for the average gamer,

But thats all just my opinion and may not be correct.
