I noticed this tonight when racing at Suzuka in my Nissan GTR. After an (unwanted) excursion into the sand, upon entering the track again I generally slide off at the next corner...

The first couple of times this happened, I assumed I was entering the corner too fast. But that would be weird, as I was approaching slower having just come out of the sand.

So I put some mental effort in, and I'm sure the car handles considerably worse in the next section of track, after being off the track.

This only seems to happen when all four wheels get off track though, and the throttle is cut. I've been deep into the inside of the corner with two wheels many times, with no ill effects - however even a brief time with four wheels in the dirt creates the poor handling.

This is all on Professional physics with all the driving aids off.

Is this GT5P trying to simulate dirty tyres since I've been off the track? The handling seems to come right after about 10-15secs of clean running.

Your thoughts and experiences please.

I've had the same experiences, but thought it was just me driving badly and having to get into it again after some off-roading. You might be right about the dirty tires.

I have the same nagging feeling but couldn't put my finger on it. Would be amazing if it was correct.

LoL Chris, i had the exact same experience with my GTR at Fuji yesterday. Got pushed off track and went throught the gras and the next 2 turns (right before start-finish straight)
i went straight into the grass again.

Yes i think PD is trying to simulate dirty tyres. IMO this should prevent short cutting. 👍

On the downside, it also gives rammers an even better reason to punt you off track online.

I've experienced it too and I think you are absolutely right about the dirty tyres.

I went off quite a few times yesterday when racing at Suzuka 700pp (wasn't really driving very well) and in the next couple of corners I didn't have as much grip as I had when I didn't go off. The loss of grip made me go off in the next corner aswell a couple of times.:ouch:

I don't know when the grip returnes though. Is it after a number of seconds or is it after driving a certain distance?

Wow, good to see I wasn't imagining things! 👍

It'd be interesting to see if this is a Professional physics only thing, or if it happens in Standard physics too. And do the driving aids reduce the effect at all?

I'm not sure. I imagine it's distance based.

I think this situation definitely warrants some more investigation...

I've had this impression for a while, so just posting to agree with you, grip definitely seems pretty terrible for a bit after an unwanted excursion :)

I'm on Pro physics and no aids except ABS=1 (I know, but I can't get to grips with my flimsy DFP pedals, no feeling what so ever)

How long is a while? Was it already in the first big update or did PD sneak it in recently?

This does sound very interesting. I suspect over time PD will "sneak" little updates like these into the game and not say anything to see if people really do notice. There would be a loose of grip after you went grass cutting so this does sound like a delibrate attempt to model this.

I've only had the game since the PAL release I'm afraid, so can't offer much insight...

I have not seen this, but I'm very sure that the grip is reduced a bit after sliding out on the grass and sand. I drive the WRX STI 05 alot and the times i went off the track, and when i'm back on the track the car drifts more easily than normal for a few seconds. It feels very real. (I'm used to gravel roads)

again I noticed this a good while ago, sure it was before spec II update, the cars do handle very skittish around the next 3/4 corners after being off the track.

I have also now and again found that after a few laps the car seems to grip a little better? Not sure if I am imagining this?

I do have the same feeling, after about 1.5 laps around Daytona it feels like the grip level is increased from tire heat? But still not sure.

I definitely agree with this theory. Its very very hard to get back on pace after being off the track, which only adds insult to injury if you have been punted off.

I'm sure I felt this sort of thing in the Japanese Demo download version. Does anybody remember that?

I noticed the same thing.
How easy would it be if PD just said what their physics engine simulates.
No guessing about tires warming up and stuff like that.

I thought this effect was also in GT4 and maybe even before that.
And the tyres certainly seem cold to start and warm up over the first lap or so.

This is a definate.. I noticed it after about the 3rd excursion.. You need to take it easy into the next corner after a trip to the gravel .. nice touch.

There's no tyre wear, but at least there's tyre dirt, which I consider great for this simulation. Not that it helps to have dirty tyres after being rammed, but at least it's more realistic. 👍 I also noticed we need to warm up the tyres at the start of the race, as I always have less grip than usual at the first corner, and a bit of this at the next couple of corners. After that, it's perfect condition.

I confirm this, tested it out a bit and it seems the longer you stay on the dirt the longer grip is changed, it lies between 3 and 8 seconds, i think.

I have always had a feeling that it was there, never thought about it though.

It's a fact that in GT5p the tires are dirty after going offroad (Sand or grass) and you need quite long before recovering initial grip.

I have also noticed that you do not have a full grip when starting a race... this become evident in Suzuka for 1st corner and the Esse's ;)

Yeah me too. The tires may not wear, but they are affected by dirt and need to be warmed up at the start of the race. So many times I've been punted off at Suzuka, recovered only to go off at the next turn because there is so much less grip.

nope, the dirty tyre feature was in the game since prolouge came out and i can say that with 110% because i friggin cant update my GT5: P cause my country is blocking the proxy for the server :grumpy:

Chris

Ah now that might explain it, I was putting it down to the car not liking slow speeds and moving off from a standing (or almost) start with my settings/no driver aids but that makes more sense.
