Disappearing competitors

OK, I've come across two cases of disappearing competitors in the last two days, the first more odd than the second.

In the first instance, I didn't have time to qualify before entering my selected race and started in 11th place (out of 12). When the race started 10 of the other racers had disappeared leaving just me and the guy that had qualified in 2nd! How weird is that? Anybody else come across this?

In the second instance it was a 17 lap race with 20 racers. I qualified on pole and the race seemed fairly uneventful apart from the fact that by the end of lap 4 there was only 5 racers left! I expect a few dropouts in each race but I've never come across this many before. How many racers do you typically 'lose' in your races?

Wow that's definitely something wrong. Out of 20 I'll normally see about 3-5 drop out. Race B normally 3-4.
 
I was doing Race B last night and right after warmup before the race was supposed to start it went right down the line and disconnected everyone as far as I could tell. That sucks because I believe it took DR points from me. I was an A going into the race and after being disconnected I was a B. First time it has happened to me although I know others here have mentioned it happening to them.
