Disappearing penalties

Have seen it happen a couple of times now where a car in front of me with a penalty crosses the line at the end of a race with the penalty still there, but then when the results come up the penalty isn't applied and there's no red dot to say they ever had one. Anyone else seen this? Is it a glitch or are people cheating somehow.

Yeah this happens sometimes. Not useful when you hold back from overtaking someone at the end because you think you will beat them due to the penalty they supposedly have.

Was wondering whether I should report people when I see it happen, but don't really want to if I don't know why it's happening

Fair enough, but is it the game saying the other car has a penalty when they don't, or is there a penalty that's not being applied at the end of the race?

It's the game displaying the penalty in error.

Yes, likely because of lag. On your screen they did something worth a penalty so got one, however on their screen they didn't so did not receive a penalty.

This is annoying as you think they've got one when they have not and there is nothing you can do about it other than accept it happens.
