Nice car selection, and you probably mean RUF CTR,or CTR Yellowbird! 👍

i am exited to start this one from the start.. the last one i join in at infineon... i have 2 problems... im leaving the weekend that this starts and will be gone for over a week and my game got corrupted and now i dont have much cash or cars

I have been testing this afternoon and decided on two of my cars, the third Im unsure which way to go with...

Going to leave it til the weekend for the Grand Unvieling but a few clues...

1st car is a natural evolution of one of my VTD(I) machines....

2nd car is a sweet high revving six cylinder with more than a hint of south american soul...

Tested all at Grand Valley east (which I would reccomend for its short nature but challenging corner sections both low and high speed respectively) and chucked in the 5 Turbo for good measure too to find that it was only 1 second quicker than my slowest choice so far!

My third choice is likely to be a 4wd of some description but who knows!

regards

Dave

Okay, after about 3 hours effort, I FINALLY have my third car purchased and set up.

My line up

Saleen S7 '02 - 2.133
Chevrolet Camaro SS '69 - 4.445
Subaru Impreza Coupe 22B-STi Ver. '98 - 3.625

These P/W figures are after using the base mods from VTD 1, including Stage 1 Turbo for the Rex

Aiiiight

(edited to add P/W)

Rules post: Just getting ready for the off.

A series of track days for lightly modded sports-biased road cars at various permanent tracks around the world.

The idea is to reproduce the variety of a track day, and have a bit of fun. This being GTP there has to be a competitive element so we've got a system of classes that should produce some healthy competition. I want the class system to throw up a few odd-ball cars, as you get at a real track day, rather than have everyone turning up in a Motorsport Elise, or whatever. You can choose 3 cars from different divisions, so give it a go!

New for this series, we are also running a control car, where everyone goes round in a set car at a set level of tune. The car will change at each track, and should allow everyone to see how they really stack up against the opposition! The cars are ones you're unlikely to drive in the normal course of events, such as the Spyker Laviolette, so it should be fun giving them a thorough workout.

We are also allowing competitors to choose one bikefrom the game TT, so we can all see how they compare to the cars on identical circuits.

Just looking at the circuit list is there any chance of running the full Autumn ring circuit instead of just the mini section?

The full circuit is much more of a challenge over a week, I remember running the mini during the WRS and it got quite boring as its such a short lap...

Just a thought

regards

Dave

We decided to run the Mini Ring, to give a tight circuit, so as to make a good comparison between TT and GT$ over all kinds of tracks. And since it will be the first large scale comparison done, the Mini-Ring was an obvious choice.

Fair enough then, I still think its a bit tooo short to run on for a whole week.... regarding TT though, are points going to be awarded for running a bike as perhaps not everyone has TT yet? I dont have this myself at the moment.

Still havent decided on my 3rd car, am going to wait until the rules and classes are announced as Im pleased with my 1st and 2nd cars for now.

Looking forward to getting VTDII started.

I just read the thread and I'm very interested in racing.
I would pick my cars, but we don't know the classes yet. Should I pick my cars and worry about classes later or wait for classes to go up and pick from there?

We are assuming that it will run in P/W divisions 1>2, 2>3 3>4, etc. (or am I wrong guys?)

I have picked mine, and god help eddie if his classes mean I can't use them!

Don't feel like working on WRS today (C5R @ Nurb 👎), so I decided to work on my car choices.
For now I have my three, but I have four others if the classes don't work out in my favor:
Caterham Seven FireBlade '02- P/W:2.674
Aston Martin DB9 Coupe '03- P/W:3.810
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI RS TOMMI MAKINEN Edition '00- P/W:4.570

i think youll have to pick between the evo and the caterham as they are both in the modern class.

would be good to see the evo running as we had a caterham in VTD1 :)

I think with the new system you'll find the Caterham at a major disadvantage: Because it has an amazing power to weight ratio, it'll be up against the Supercars... And above 100mph it just can't live with a Zonda :indiff:

Circuits: I went round them all yesterday, and we need a re-think: they're all so well known we'll struggle to entertain ourselves for a week at each one...

Suggested Revised (5 circuit) list:
  1. Motorland
  2. Deep Forest
  3. Trial Mountain Reverse
  4. Apricot Hill Reverse
  5. Autumn Ring Full Circuit

Basically I've dropped Grand Valley, because most of us could get down to a definitive laptime within about 4 laps :guilty: and put the Full Autumn Ring in its place; swapped the Mini Ring for Motorland, and reversed a couple (as threatened). Any suggestions welcome.

Edit: I'm not sure I'll be ready for this weeklend. I've got a new job, working 14 hour days, and just can't put the time in during the week. This was one reason why I felt I needed a bit of a break after the last one. Furthermore, we do need to drum up more support from outside our little band. I didn't want to be pushed along on this, and this is exactly what is happening.

All the best,

Mr Grumpy

Circuit choices look good - but I would always pick Grand Valley over trial mountain, much more challenging sets of corners and overall much more balanced. I usually find within half an hour of any circuit im down to roughly my average time, its after that I start chipping away at 10ths and 100thds - the exception being the Nurburgring of course!

If your struggling for time I would suggest a initial race to give everyone something to do and then simplify the main series if possible? The class system last time round was quite complex and any simplification has to be a good thing.

Alternatively use the VTD1 system and just change the tracks and make sure people use different cars?

Not a bad idea, Abarth and I can run this one, to give you some time, and just run with the same rules as VTD1, and introduce the new rules for the next one.

Sorry to pressure you Ed, but people are going to be getting bored waiting for it, and loose interest.

How about a round of preseason testing?

Our chosen cars, in base spec only, at one track. Not counted for VTD2, but just so we have some competition going in the mean time

Oh, I just saw a promo vid that Holden made, it's pretty damn good!

I'm up for that.👍 We'd also have to do testing with the control cars on the corresponding tracks. That's probably my favorite thing to do in GT4, test car and track combos.:)

And about the Caterham. If VTD2 is based on P/W, could it be possible I fully tune the Caterham? I think the P/W is around 1.4-ish or something crazy like that. It may be able to compete.

Also a question on cars. I "found" the Pontiac Solstice Coupe Concept. I know it was a concept at the time of the game, but I drove it for about an hour and didn't feel concept-y. The rules are "No concepts", yes, but, this car has no distict traits like the concepts you intend to rule out. (the Escudo, the Le Mans Audi, the like) Basic stats on the Solstice are:
bhp: 243 kg: 1318 P/W: 5.424
The P/W speaks for itself. I really think this car should be allowed to run.

sadly no
how it works is,you start of with a car with base mods,so say u have your caterham you can fit sports exhaust, sports suspension and a racing flywheel, then at each track you can add another mod or upgrade, say a semi racing exhaust at the first track, then a stage 1 n/a at the next track and so on :)

Please don't annoy Ed any more than we have to, he's vewwy gwumpy lately. I think it should be allowed, especially as it is as slow as a overweight snail, who has been taking too much valium...

Are they selling the Solstice now then? They don't here... The specs are pretty believable, so as long as they're selling it somewhere, I've no objection. I'm feeling much better today. Who needs drugs when you've got Pink Floyd :D?

Here is the class system as it stands so far. I think it works, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

The Divisions remain as before:
There will be four divisions:
  • Classics Division (up to 1979)
  • Budget Division (1980-1989)(plus Golf MkI GTI & Lancia Delta Integrale)
  • Modern Division (1990 on)
  • Millionaire’s Division (C 100,000+)
You may enter up to 3 cars but each must be from a different division. This is to promote diversity.

Each Division will be split into classes according to the attached file \/.

Now I think that this system allows us to run cars from all the divisions together. So the divisions exist purely for the purposes of car selection, and the classes separate cars' performance.

Furthermore, I think that cars should change classes they are tuned, so they will always compete with their peers. It will mean that the canny will hold off tuning for power in order to remain at the top of their class... It should also bring easily tuned cars (such as the 205 T16 I had last time) into line and generally even things up.

Please look at this carefully, and consider how it affects your car choices, as I have tried to consider everything but will inevitably miss something. Don't worry if there are a barrage of problems, we can always revert to VTD1 spec, after all...

RIP Syd Barrett...

Looks good to me Ed, when are we planning to start?

One question, you have used PS as the power figure in file, are we converting this 'correctly' before using bhp (as I do)?

Regards

Scaff

I find PS are the most consistent figures across the game. They are the figures they use to calculate the power to weight (well, weight to power, in fact... ) ratio that's used in the game, so I think we'd best use them in order to clear any confusion.

If you change to PS, suddenly all those little discrepancies disappear, as if by magic... It's a pain, but...

Sounds fair I guess!

That means my cars can run...YIPPEE!!!

Bingbong. Your attention please:
The second Virtual Track Day Series will commence on Sunday 16th July. Please note that the first control car will be the Mazda Autozam AZ-1 of which there are just 17 in the used car lots.
Please be sure to get hold of one in time.
Thankyou. Bingbong.
