... but they still don't care if they open their door into your car, reverse into it, scratch it, crease the bonnet by sitting on it, etc.

Even if I park WELL away from other cars, someone always comes and parks next to me and, on a few occasions, has damaged my car.

When I had my kitcar, I even had a guy urinate into it! When I caught him at it and challenged him, he said ' F@#$ing rich boy with your fancy sports car!' ... The car in question was a Robin Hood in need of a great deal of TLC!

There are a few too many people around in the U.K who can't stand to see other people happy and enjoying something that they worked hard to afford.

If someone did that to me and my car I would whip out my key, stab him with it, and once the cops arrived say, "He was taking a leak in my car, and he verbally assualted me!" Then I get hauled off to prison.

I'm not here to single out any specific car owner as being a tool. Perhaps it's where I live, but I see obnoxious drivers of every stripe.

Just the ones I can immediately recall:

  • Many BMW 3-series (oddly the M drivers seem pretty relaxed)
  • Ford Mustang GTs
  • Scion TCs
  • Honda S2000s
  • VW R32s
  • Infiniti G35s and 37s (they're ubiquitous here)
  • Nissan 300ZX TT (OK, I rode shotgun in this one)
  • Acura RSXs
  • Toyota Priuses (you heard right)
  • A wide variety of Japanese and American pickups
  • And I've almost been clipped by a couple of 240SXs

Yeah, I can't single out any one driver. They're all obnoxious. And I've done plenty of stupid things in cars when I was younger. But I've never damaged someone's property out of spite.

M drivers are the most relaxed? You must be talkin' 'bout pre-E92 drivers. (Sorry to anyone who owns the car in question)

True. I'm glad the Panda is quite narrow, it gives extra "idiot room" in car parks.

Also true. I used to get a lot of looks in the MX5 and the vast majority were positive, but very occasionally there'd be one guy (usually a student strangely, and usually a jock) who'd shout an obscenity for absolutely no reason, other than to reaffirm his stature within a social group or something.

The Mazda only cost me a grand too, but I think you're right, some people just don't like seeing other people enjoying themselves. I'm still waiting for the day when someone makes a comment about me having two cars. We're in a culture where people don't care how you earned your money, but if you're doing better than them then they'll hate you for it. It's a nation of a-holes.

The UK is a lot worse than the US about these things. Although being in Texas, a bunch of people drive big gigantic trucks for their jobs, which I understand. But they need to try their best to park away from people. So many times I have had to squeeze into the car because they park so close, and then when backing out, you can't see anything.

I've found out that the bigger the vehicle, the more often the passengers need the shortest possible course to the front door (usually because they're kinda huge)

btw, try actually using the mirrors to back up along with looking over your shoulder. it helps with my big Grand Caravan

Home: actually, that's kinda Universal :P

I had a long wheelbase Town and Country and it was a breeze to park forward or backward. Parking is not difficult and it boggles my mind when people cannot do it--especially in vehicles that are small. I saw a Mini today almost double parked in 2 spaces, I was like WTF.

I also hate it when people take an hour to park. Backing up, going forward, backing, forward for a thousand times.

again, it's probably Mirrors actually being used.
i don't think they teach Backing up in drivers ed classes
a Mini's a 2 door, right? anti parking lot dings.

see above.

people do what they want how they want.

Door dings tick me off too, I saw it happen once: bang into the door, have a look, drive off to find another parking spot.
My parents had a huge dent in their door once, God knows what caused that.

I always look for an expensive car to park next to :D I'll know they'll be a little bit more careful.
