Distance Markers / Braking Reference Points?

Hey guys. One frustrating thing I have noticed in this game is that there are no distance markers going into turns. It seems silly to me to be waiting for that little flashing gear indicator and then gut feeling my way into a braking point!! On some turns there are little things to use such as ends of rumble strips, side access roads or dark patches of grass, but why can't the designers just put up the stupid 300/200/100 meter markers like they have on real racing tracks and on every other racing game. That would tremendously help on driving consistency and maybe cut down on the 'inadvertent' punting online.

Now that I'm done with my whinging, maybe you guys can help me. What do you use as braking reference points?

Turn 1 at Fuji as meter marks off to the left of the road thats how I know where to brake for it. Turn 2 at Fuji also has meter markers on the right side of the road

The very sharp righthand hairpin turn at Fuji F has no meter markers so I use the imperfections in the road to know where to brake.

Turn 1 at Suzuka I use the pitroad exit divider line as a reference

The hairpin in the middle of the Suzuka course I just estimate how far after the rumble strip I have to brake with each car and once I got it down its not so bad

The final chicane at Suzuka there is hard to see green meter markers on the left side of the road, I use them to know when to brake

What, GT5:P doesn't have the dark patches of rubber on the track surface where everyone else brakes? :D

Ha, lol. I use them dark patches of rubber too. Good to use as a break reference, and great to exit on. :sly:

For Degner at Suzuka, I use the last marker (see there IS a marker!) before it.
For Dunlop at Fuji F, I use the right hand side barrier, there is a bit where it moves outwards away from the track.
For First at Fuji F, again I use the markers on the barriers to the left.
For Casio at Suzuka, I use the bridge as a reference marker.

Many, many, many more. Very few corners I have to go by instinct, you can use anything, be it a tree (like at Nurburgring) or the rumble strips or barriers or bridges, marshal stations, pit lane exit lines, road markings....

I tend to go by instinct, or subconsciously spotting braking points. I've played so many GT games and so many cars that I've got used to how they all brake and where I need to brake.

I have to admit to using the racing line guide in online races though, it's handy when you're in traffic or off your normal line to catch a glimpse of the line turning red and knowing you'll have to brake pretty sharpish.

You're unconsciously giving yourself markers, which in itself is the same thing as brake markers. You're not going by instincts, instincts are based on markers. Whichever they are, a tree, a braking meter board, a line, an imperfection, etc.

But then depending on where you are in the field, braking markers are useless due to the 'rubber-banding' effect the game uses. Fair enough if you start in 1st and stay there but when you are coming through the field it changes everytime.

Why cant they put the 300, 200, 100 markers in? they do have them... look closely

For me, 100 is good at higher speeds pretty much for most cars.

Turn on the racing line in the options, that will help you get the basic spots down on any track, and you can fine tune after you get some practice.

On most of the tracks there are braking markers at trackside, but you have to look for them; they are not easy to spot when you are entering the curve at over 100 mph (160 kph). Drive around the track slowly in the Time Trial mode and watch carefully (usually at the outside of the curve).

Rubber banding is not that strong, Ive not had to change my braking points at all for it, maybe because most of my braking points are a little bit early, just in case I screw up and to give room for me to avoid cars in front if needs be. Still I have not had that much of a problem with rubber banding.

Ahhh, I drove around Suzuka real slow for a lap and I do see the braking markers now. They are so small and obscure that they are useless. I have been picking other markers but on some turns like 130R, I am going by feel and the flashing gear indicator.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I still just wish they would make the distance markers bigger and more visible like they are at Degner.
