Oh, that's OGR. I do RC5 ... HA HA! Distrubted does several projects, all based in large scale mathmatics.

A translation? Well it's all on the site. Not knowing what the hell is going on is one reason I don't do SETI or folding. I mean, what the hell are you doing? At least with dnetc I know that it's attempting to use different keys to decrypt a line of text.

I guess folding isn't so unusual, but for some reason I haven't gotten in to it.

I've been running seti for a while now.....

Really... Do you have any interest in joining GTPlanet's SETI team? Links are in my signature for team information. We could always use another member.

I personally am working on my 250th unit but since I download them five at a time and then upload all at once, I will have 251 after this batch of workunits.

This is what your screen looks like when you've been running SETI for a while...

:P

Holy Toledo. Nicely done, LM. 1.1 million blocks total?! Impressive.

I'm gaining more credit under BOINC SETI@Home everyday too. Now, if only the rest of the team would convert over to it we'd be all set.

Ask and ye shall receive. Here are my stats.

Why don't they just rearrange the name and call it BIONIC - it would make life so much simpler.

Because it stands for Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing. Acronyms like that are a pain. I keep switching the "O" and the "I" around and almost always spell it BIONC.

How about, Berkeley Infrastructure of Open Network Interface Computing. Or some junk.

BIONIC

Yeah, that would work. Kinda like the BIONIC Man?

The project is more or less a true distributed computing project like distributed.net nowadays with this version. The original project was still a distributed computing project but the credit granted was always a fixed amount. That's why I like the BOINC version of SETI@Home so much more since credit always varies and is more than "1". Otherwise I wouldn't have 3300 credits as of now.

I thought Seti always kept track of how much work an individual had done. Guess I was wrong.

Speaking of distributed's method, I set a new high today. Beat my old high by like 15%.

Nice! When did you convert over to BOINC? I've been running it since March I think.
This should answer you question:
seti.jpg

And I have a question of my own. These stat in no way include my stats for climateprediction, correct? Is there any way of adding the two stats together?
These are my numbers as of the time of this post.

No, only your statistics for SETI@Home BOINC are included in the team's overall credit.

Seventeen users and only two have switched to BOINC?

How many people are still running SETI?

DNETC or DEATH!

SETI is alright. Distributed.net is alright. I wish there was something more beneficial to society that I could run silently on my hoard of Macs.

Tell me about it. I'd love it if the rest of the team would switch over to BOINC. The original project is going to be shut down in the near future, anyhow. What's the point of crunching for the original project when it will be ceased soon?

It's been about a month so I figured it was time for an update. I installed BOINC on a few of the computers at the office and some of my co-workers have it running at home, as well. I was running only (1) 2.4 P4. Now I am sitting with:
seti1fy.jpg

That should up my stats a bit. Anyone else that wants to join GTP's account can do so here Your computer doesn't have to run 24/7. On a 2.4, it takes about 3.5 hours to complete a work unit, and that is while working on AutoCAD drawings. The 3.0HT can do 2 work units in about the same time. I am still waiting to get credit for some of the work units that are done but haven't been validated yet (in the area of 2000 credits). I'll keep you posted.

Yeah, I'm trying to convince my dad to let me run BOINC SETI@Home on his brand new 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 Dell 8400 that he recently bought for Christmas for himself. He hasn't given me an answer yet.

You do realize that there is a team thread, right? Nice job on adding all those computers. That'll boast our numbers.

^I can't even claim ignorance on this one, since I previously posted in that thread. I shall not let it happen again:lol:

Actually there is one program for a worthy cause, but i cant remember the name. (my teacher stopped running seti to run this one)

Also try:
folding@home - http://folding.stanford.edu/
Yesh (sludge).
F@H is for the worthiest of causes these days.

More and more people getting cancer, even the thought of finding the cure just rocks. I'd much rather fold than look for aliens.

There is that argument, "Well, if we find aliens, they may already have the cure for such diseases!" That is, in my opinion, simply ludicrous.

Fold!

The advantage of BOINC is that you can have more than one project running. I have a climate prediction (for another 4 hours, then it's getting the boot), seti and soon will add 2 other projects when they go live. Even if one site is down/out of work the others will still be up so there is always something to do. Aliens aren't exactly my thing, either, but what the heck. Might as well be doing something instead of sitting here all night.
