If you use an online translator, such as Babelfish or Dictionary.com/translate(my personal fave) and then translate it back into english, you get some odd translations:odd:

Take for instance, my signature text. In Eng-Japanese-Eng, it's-

And I translated a sign that is up at my school.

Entry item to year it is not between the test 7, 8, 9 or 10.

You just discovered the secret to using these things for foreign language classes. You translate back and what looks messed up you figure out with your dictionary and/or notes. The rest is good to go. I used that philosophy to help me get an A in four semesters of college German.

Do yous care about French/German/anything else? I have the reading age in French of a 3 year old!!

I know how to find the bar or party in both Spanish and German. Outside of that I am mostly useless. I didn't see the point in learning anything else. I figure everything I will need will be at those places.

Stupid view i know, but if they know English, let them speak. I've wasted too much of my life trying to learn French, and failing. Sort of like Chemistry. :guilty:

I only took the courses to meet requirements. If I actually wanted to learn I wouldn't have used translators.

French is hard to learn. I know a ton of people who have failed and gone on to become fluent in German or Spanish. Both are just so much closer to English that there is no great leap.
 
I've found that these translators are generally only good at translating nouns, and are capable of translating the most basic of sentences, but that's about it. They are still a useful tool, though. I just wouldn't let them write an entire paper for me.

I always used Worldlingo.com and it got me an A in class. You just have to use the free demo paragraph by paragraph.
 
Fora/forums ((English) German, French, etc...)) like these are very good to learn other languages.

You haven't watched any good anime then. And since when did anime have anything to do with this thread? (Although, it is a very useful tool for learning Japanese)
 
Mistranslations are all over games.

In examples: Tokyo Extreme Racer 3, on the car discription of the NOB S15 it says the car comes with a Six Fast Transmission. Mistranslation of Speed.

In Kaido Battle 2 (Japanese) there are a few English words. You can buy a Carbon Fiber Trunkrid (Trunklid), and Frame (Flame) and Trival (Tribal) Vinyls.

And what I feel is the best, in Racing Battle: C1 Grand Prix (Also Japanese) There's a Miata dragster, nicely named the Miata DRAG STAR.
Oh yea. Drag Star. :D
 
Its good enough when i want to figure out whats going on at german forums such as www.gtrp.de and such, if its too hard i just ask a few of my MSN contacts that know English and German to give me a better translation.
