Purpose: To identify the current market and demand for a DLC package to include RUF Automobile GmbH. Through the comments and discussion in this thread, it is hoped the Gran Turismo franchise will recognize the benefit from an additional content package as purposed.
I will not pretend to know the business relationships, strategies, politics or past history of neither the Gran Turismo (Polyphony Digital) or Need for Speed (EA Sports) franchises and Porsche Automobil. The only fact we can accurately comment on in the current situation is that EA Sports controls all digital and/or gaming license and rights to Porsche and will not, as seen in recent dealings with Turn 10 Studios, release or otherwise sub license these rights to any other franchise. The business decision or strategies for Polyphony Digital to obtain sub or sole license rights to Porsche is for another discussion.
Its almost unconscionable that a game such as Gran Turismo 5 has been blocked from portraying not only the worlds largest and one of the most successful race car manufacturers in history but one of the most iconic sports car makers. However PD, like Turn 10, is in the unique position to circumvent these issues by offering a content package for a manufacturer that is arguably superior, while also filling a large gap currently present in the GT5 model list.
RUF has been represented in the Gran Turismo series since the franchises second installment released in 1999. Five models are now present in GT5. Through the growth of this current relationship, both entities stand mutual gain. The manufacturer will recognize further brand awareness. As of March 2011, GT5 sold over 6.3 million units worldwide. An incredible customer base just waiting to be tapped into.
As for Polyphony Digital, would the estimated return on investment justify the project? Would the revenues seen from a complete and current model line from RUF in a DLC pack be greater than design costs? How many of those 6.3 million plus GT5 owners would be willing to purchase the additional content? How many would like the opportunity to race the latest and most advanced rear engine automobiles on the planet?
For those interested, I purpose the following content.
No less than the 5 current production models in the RUF lineup, all premium (listed below).
Aero modifications for all models.
Wheel modifications for all models.
At least 1 model to be available for racing modification (RM).
Proposed Models:
RUF CTR3
Rt 12 S
RGT8
Roadster
Rt 12 R
While we all wait for the day we can lap a 550 Spyder around Laguna Seca or take a GT3 RSR through the Green Hell, there is an opportunity, in the not so distant future to experience the driving pleasure brought on only in a high performance rear engine auto.
