DLC possibly already on the game..

Well, i know from EA's expierence, they update the game with huge mb's like 600-1200(sometimes)....and then you have to pay for an unlock code which is 100kb. So definetely the dlc is not on the game, also it would not make any sense, to wait 7 months for something to unlock.

I know in the original Shift EA sent out an update after which the Coke Zero Viper would appear online and as an AI car but I couldn't unlock it because I couldn't get the code :(

It appears there's some strange theories going on here!

Doesn't hold up. 100kb wouldn't even hold a single texture, MAYBE it could hold a small, simple mesh (3d model), so you're not getting anything visual for 100kb in a game released in 2011.

EDIT: It COULD hold a shader and material, though. So it might contain a new chrome paint (gold chrome, for example). But not a racecar paint scheme, not a significant track texture, etc.

This also doesn't hold up - of course the release code is going to be in there
somewhere to activate the thing, BUT a handful of lines of code do not equal 100kb, even with an installer.

100kb can hold more than enough data for the ENTIRE PHYSICS OF A VEHICLE. Easily. Consider the physics for each vehicle to be nothing more than a set of numbers - torque at every 200rpm, spring rate, spring linearity, wheelbase, gear numbers and ratios, etc. Everything the physics engine needs to know is a list of names down the left, and a list of numbers on the right.Looks kinda like this (everything after the // are comments)

var gears = 8;
var gear 0 = -5; //reverse
var gear 1 = 0; //neutral
var gear 2 = 5.3; //first
(in before the complaining about code language)
etc
etc
etc

Now, these lists are REALLY TINY. If they've managed 50kb per car for the physics, that's MASSIVE.

So, recap.

100kb files COULD contain
NO textures
NO (significant) meshes
ONE, maybe TWO Physics files
INSTALLER/ACTIVATION CODE

But what about those updates that were 300MB+? Well, there's no way in hell those were all code. Nobody updates a game with 300MB of code. It's like updating a house with enough plumbing to make 5 or 6 other houses. Out of plumbing. Those updates contained models and textures, and lots of them.

What were they for? Don't know. Some could have been fixes for holes in some tracks, some would have been replacements for the NSX taillights that people were going on about. Undoubtedly, some would have been the suits and helmets. Before we even THINK about what might or might not be on the disc, we've got 700MB of update data that we don't know much about. Sure, in among it, there could be new car models and textures, just waiting on physics and activation. But there's too many unknowns right now before people even think about figuring out what was going on half a year and 700MB ago.

I hope one of those updates fixed my Audi R8, the spoiler is 4 feet of to the side and is not touching the car at all. As for your theory of what's in the 300MB updates, all I can say or think is
:drool::drool::drool::drool:

DLC has to be downloaded by all players, because otherwise you couldn't use the new cars online.

Therefore DLC will have to be contained in one of the game's mandatory updates, either for free or to be unlocked with a code.

Not all. If I remember correctly, when MCLA released the South Central DLC, there were people who had the content and some who weren't. They were still racing together.

--I just woke up so my thinking may be off.

The Chrome Line Cars aren't in the game. They are downloaded from PSN.

The ticket cars are cars already in the game, that can be bought.

There could be a code which can only be used in the options mode. Like in Prologue.

Why can you drive the Chromeline 300SL in Shuffle races then?

Didn't know that it was available as Shuffle race car. You speak of the Red with chrome stripes and Chrome GT on side 300SL?

Also, the stealth cars. Those were downloaded. As well the Edge Camaro.

My downloads for the Chevrolet Camaro SS Edge Special, McLaren F1 Stealth Model, and GT5 NASCAR Car are only 100kb each. That's why I think the cars are already on disc and we just need an unlock code to get them.

--I could be way wrong, or onto something... Who knows?

The released stuff was already on the disc indeed, but that doesn't mean future DLC will be too (if there's going to be DLC...). Don't forget that the Stealth and Chromeline cars were also pre-order bonuses.

Most of you will remember the indianapolis road course time trill demo that PD released before GT5 hit the stores. Now that included 2 cars and one track. It was around 200 mb in size.

Also note all these bonus cars we call DLC are livery changed versions of current cars.

So I kinda agree that end would be small and the actually car is there. Just needed code for looks.

Now to get new cars, which are not in game. Then maybe that's where DLC is actually going to be involved.

Bring on tue DLC.

So you're saying the "unlock code" is for looks and whatnot, yet the true and actual DLC will be huge. I can see that. It's almost too many ways to look at it. Gah!

Yes it's this one.

Nope.

If DLC was on the disc, over and above the deals made with various retail partners over the launch period, they would have been on sale ages ago.

As others have said, if it (dlc) was already on the disc it would have been made 'unlockable' ages ago.

Thats proper dlc, as in courses, not existing existing cars etc.

That may be so, but hey, it was an interesting thought I had. It was probably all the ribs I had talking to me. Lol.

But I can also see -its a long stretch- that maybe Kaz wanted to try to fix alot of the problems, and then bring on the DLC. Once again, that may well be the ribs talking. Lol.

Nope again - if DLC was on the disc it wouldn't, by definition, be DLC would it...

Content on the disc not yet accessible = unlocakble content (not that I believe there is any)
Content not on the disc but provided via PSN and available offline after download = downloadable content (Edge Camaro and so on)
Content not on the disc but provided via PSN and available online only = online content (seasonal events and OCD)

when its been 2 years after release of GT5 I expect this to ship.

With all Patches on the BD and all DLC chrome, stealth and pre order cars from all regions in one package.

They won't.The stealth/chrome cars were for people who were willing to spend the extra money for GT5, and I think that Polyphony will be true to their word. But, time will tell, as always...
