I'm talking to my boy about GT5 and DLC, and I came up on a thought.

I'm thinking that the possible and future DLC that we may have for the game is already on the disc and if we do have to pay, we'll be paying for an unlock code.

What do the community think?

I know is common for game publishers to do that nowadays, but I really don't think so in this particular case.

No. That'd be like Microsoft and their Windows products... Ripping people off.

^^^ 👍

Nahhhhhh. That's not true at all to OP.

How good is your ganja, man? You're coming up with some over-the-top conspiracy and all.

The Gamestop Nascar and the Chromeline 300SL are in the game. You get the Nascar from a 2010 ticket (but as you don't have the 'PSN access code' it is deleted next time you go on GT5) and the Chromeline appears as a car in Online Shuffle races. This leads me to believe all DLC cars so far released are in the game, but need to be fully unlocked by DLC codes using PSN.

I think that is partly true. I have a feeling most of the new content(seasonals/OCD/clothing) was on the disc but locked due to PD/Kaz getting rushed to release GT5. So they are rolling out DLC and unlocking the content that they wanted to perfect before they released the game.

I only asked because if you look at some of the other games like Resident Evil 5(which had Arcade Mode, yet you paid for an unlock code to get it) and Test Drive Unlimited 2(which the DLC cars you got were like 100kb downloads). So I'm thinking that alot of the stuff on here that people are asking for is already on the game, just need an unlock code to get it.

-Thoughts of a person who've eaten too many ribs. Lol.

I don't smoke.

I believe there's a difference between DLC and the promotional cars we've already got. The Stealth/Chrome/GT Academy/Schick/Etc. cars we've got so far are not Add-ons for the game, they only are paintjobs for already existing cars. If they were to release a new car to the game it woudln't take a little download, it'll be much bigger than that.

If so, then it wouldn't make sense for Kaz to hold out on releasing the codes for 7 months when people were asking about DLC almost as soon as GT5 was released.

I'm gonna guess here that Tony's profile pic is from Supertramp's "Breakfast In America" album. It looks familiar.

Close?

Most dlc for games are only 100kb because they are only a tiny part of the game

100kb dlc signifies that the content is already there due to a patch or included on the disc. The 100kb download is just the unlock key for it.

Right on the money. I don't mean for it to freak people out, that's just one of my favorite albums, lol.

See this topic. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=212227
The DLC thats on the BD is going to be FREE. Japan got half allready.

Search for Stealth Car DLC included in signature game edition. Thats were they paid extra and get the paid for DLC cars pack.
Those won't be free for years.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. So, possibly, there is stuff on the game that's yet to be seen. As in cars and tracks.

Alot of things in the world don't make sense. Lol.

EA did this with battlefield, except it was free. They've "released" several maps for "free", when really they just unlocked them, never had to download anything (those maps are BIG). Anyone that thinks it's ok to pay money for something you've already bought is a fool. Holding back content is bad enough...charging for something you made people pay for and then hid from them is borderline criminal.

I thought the same exact thing when I heard about Resident Evil 5's Arcade Mode. I think it's stupid.

Tooner and myself was talking about this and we think that they're just getting as much fixed on the game as possible and then slowly release the DLC that possibly could be hidden on the disc for free.

But, you never know what's gonna happen..

Lol. I remember seeing that movie.

It appears there's some strange theories going on here!

Most dlc for games are only 100kb because they are only a tiny part of the game
Doesn't hold up. 100kb wouldn't even hold a single texture, MAYBE it could hold a small, simple mesh (3d model), so you're not getting anything visual for 100kb in a game released in 2011.

EDIT: It COULD hold a shader and material, though. So it might contain a new chrome paint (gold chrome, for example). But not a racecar paint scheme, not a significant track texture, etc.

100kb is just the release code
This also doesn't hold up - of course the release code is going to be in there somewhere to activate the thing, BUT a handful of lines of code do not equal 100kb, even with an installer.

100kb can hold more than enough data for the ENTIRE PHYSICS OF A VEHICLE. Easily. Consider the physics for each vehicle to be nothing more than a set of numbers - torque at every 200rpm, spring rate, spring linearity, wheelbase, gear numbers and ratios, etc. Everything the physics engine needs to know is a list of names down the left, and a list of numbers on the right. Looks kinda like this (everything after the // are comments)

var gears = 8;
var gear 0 = -5; //reverse
var gear 1 = 0; //neutral
var gear 2 = 5.3; //first
(in before the complaining about code language)
etc
etc
etc

Now, these lists are REALLY TINY. If they've managed 50kb per car for the physics, that's MASSIVE.

So, recap.

100kb files COULD contain
NO textures
NO (significant) meshes
ONE, maybe TWO Physics files
INSTALLER/ACTIVATION CODE

But what about those updates that were 300MB+? Well, there's no way in hell those were all code. Nobody updates a game with 300MB of code. It's like updating a house with enough plumbing to make 5 or 6 other houses. Out of plumbing. Those updates contained models and textures, and lots of them.

What were they for? Don't know. Some could have been fixes for holes in some tracks, some would have been replacements for the NSX taillights that people were going on about. Undoubtedly, some would have been the suits and helmets. Before we even THINK about what might or might not be on the disc, we've got 700MB of update data that we don't know much about. Sure, in among it, there could be new car models and textures, just waiting on physics and activation. But there's too many unknowns right now before people even think about figuring out what was going on half a year and 700MB ago.

I like your reasoning. Like I said earlier, I was full off of ribs when Tooner and myself was talking about GT5 and that idea. Having seen DLC come from other games like that, made me think about it more and ask the community for their input about it. You got thorough with it. Thanks.

It's not exactly downloadable content if it's already on the disk.

Unlockable content, perhaps?

I'm hoping they're not free at all, as I spent good money for it

when its been 2 years after release of GT5 I expect this to ship.
16245591_500x500_1-1.png

With all Patches on the BD and all DLC chrome, stealth and pre order cars from all regions in one package.

Well, i know from EA's expierence, they update the game with huge mb's like 600-1200(sometimes)....and then you have to pay for an unlock code which is 100kb. So definetely the dlc is not on the game, also it would not make any sense, to wait 7 months for something to unlock.

It was possible if GT5 was on a double layer Blu-Ray but the game is only 14 gb and i dont think there are more contents on disc.

It could be possible that EVERY car, regardless of DLC origin, is already in GT5! If it were not already in the game, then you wouldn't be able to view it.

example: ChromeLine Jag XJ13 only for Europe? Then why am I able to see it and race it in lobbies and lounge?

The DLC unlock key theory is entirely valid. Actual cars, Especially premiums, would take large amounts of memory to be in the game.

Another example: GT5 prologue Spec III update was massive, despite only adding the GTbyCitroen, Ferrari California, and Lotus Evora.

Anyone a good enough computer nerd to be able to read EVERYTHING off the disc to enlighten us neanderthals?
