If the criminal was smart, he'd (she'd) try to steal the whole car, and get away unseen. A stupid criminal would take bits and pieces of the car, leaving a mess of car parts, and a half torn up car for the police to study.

But if there's anything I've learned form watching Top Gear, it's that you shouldn't bother trying to steal a TVR.

Very rarely do people break into a car to steal the bonnet... They steal the car and the car is broken up for parts elsewhere (dodgy scrappy or dealer).

Thank you! (Now, I'll probably get hooked or something, and end up buying it for longer. Clever....)

Actually, American thieves go for cars that are the closest to stock. They have no intention on stealing body kits or large spoilers because they're ridiculously hard to sell. Stock parts however, are easy as can.

Other than Jeeps of course. :p

Well bear in mind that most people (myself included) just leave them in the glovebox. Which sounds ridiculous, but you'll want to kill yourself if you get a flat on the hard shoulder of the motorway and they're locked away in a cupboard somewhere.

I think my dad does that too. Not the smartest idea is it? It's like putting your house key under the welcome mat.

If i got a car, I would probably create some compartment that holds the key and spare locks which will be attached to the chassis under the the car in the rear end.

Anyone watch Angles and Demons? that assassin strapped his key to the front wheel well.

Well no, but my logic is that I'm more likely to get a flat than find that all that 4 of my mediocre, fairly battered rims have been nicked one day. So far it's paid off.

If they were a little more fancy or new I'd probably make the effort of hiding them somewhere a little more interesting. But in my current car there's not really anywhere else to put them.

As for the spare key, that lives in my room somewhere.
