Question in the thread title. The only other console game that featured endurance racing (Le Mans 24 Hours) had a "SAVE" option when we entered the pits (in the 24 hour race and the 10 hour Petit Le Mans race). As soon as you entered pitlane the game would take over the car and a menu would popup with these options (IIRC, last I played the game was maybe 5 years ago):

FUEL (Y/N to refill and if Y how much fuel to add)
TYRES (Y/N to change and if Y to what tyre spec)
DOWNFORCE (three settings, High, Medium, Low)

And also

SAVE GAME
and
QUIT GAME
(no explanation needed).

So, do we have this SAVE GAME option in GT5 (while pitting or in any other way)?

Kaz confirmed it?

I'm not sure whether to like it or not.

On one hand, it smacks of making the game easier for casual players.

On the other, I'm glad I'll have an option to not leave my PS3 on overnight (possible overheating won't help it last any longer)

Gosh, don't want my PS3 to overheat over the 10 - 24 hour endurance races. Wonder if we can speed up the race?

Kaz confirmed it I think. Check out Blitz187's thread. I can't check right now, sorry.

Blitz187 asked a European Sony rep about this and the answer he got was something along the lines of: 'Yeah, I think they put that in.'

So, as far as I'm concerned this is still not a certainty yet... :nervous:

Seriously, it must be there: a casual player probably never plays more than 2-3 hours, how can you pretend he will start an endurance race? ;)

Anyone seen any endurance race ? I reached lvl 20 yesterday, and opened up extreme series. There is no endurance in there ...

i think this will benefit everyone. if there is a 24hour endurance race i know i for one wont have 24 hours to sit with the game, ill be lucky to get 2 hours a day

anyway you always had the option of pausing over night anyway so its just a formality really providing the option

it was okay pausing over night on the PS2 but the PS3 uses alot more power

That's what I feared.. Now lv. 17 and dying to race an endurance race. The endurance races are confirmed right? So they should be there. But where?

I wouldnt worry too much about it, surely endurance races are in the game, i doubt PD would implement fuel efficiency etc on the basis of short distance races. Anyone know howmany levels there are? Im thinking possibly 50 or maybe even 100 would be a reasonable milestone.

Well the fuel gauge does not move at all up to Expert. The only races I did not try yet where Extreme, just a quick look, and none of them "seemed" to be endurance based.
Need to check again, was to sleepy yesterday to do it, fell into bed after 4 days of GT, and today back at work.
I'll recheck when I get home...

I guess it could still unlock at 25 or 30, but then it needs to be outside of the B-spec menu entry, because that one is filled up now.

hmm if you drive faster the time moves faster..?

so just drive the speed of light :)

anyways, yes kaz has confirmed it.

and people complaining about realism in regards to this:

no racing driver is gonna drive for 24 hours straight. they do switch every couple of hours or so?

:P

It surely is level based then, otherwise what would be the point of the pitstops as ive seen the option to refuel....

i think he was talking about bspec

yeh in 24 hour races there is either 2/3/4 drivers

hope you're right. If we just had confirmation..

maybe ... just maybe ... the endurance is mixed in with B-Spec. Just put 1 driver slot in the race lineup to human ? ...

I guess nobody reached lvl 20 b-spec yet to tell :)

There is a Trophy for finishing the Endurance Events, so they're there. They're probably accessed at higher levels, though.

Don't forget that if it weren't for casual players there wouldn't be a Gran Turismo.

If you design games that are so hardcore that casual players don't enjoy them then you don't stay in the video game business very long.

Well, you can, rFactor, LFS, etc have shown as such. But it's a niche market that probably sells a hundredth of what GT5 will sell.

hmmm so no one has been able to confirm endurance races for a-spec mode? it better be there.

also, does anyone know how to turn on tire wear and fuel consumption? i heard it was an option but i haven't seen it anywhere.

Tire Wear is on from first race to last.
Fuel never moves so far (lvl 20).

That's about all i know.

And Cape Ring Full Version is a friking tire eater. Gah, had to mount Hard to finish the race without slipping all over the place.

Won't be an option in GT Mofe. Probably somewhere in Arcade and the like.

than why are there fuel and tire wear indicators in GT mode if they serve no purpose? there seems to be a lot of unanswered questions with this game that should have simple answeres.

what you mean first race to last? like if i race 5 races the tires may wear down so for the 6th race i'll need to buy new ones?

It wouldn't be an option to turn it off/on in GT Mode is what I meant.

No, i mean the tires wear out each and every race you do, from the lvl 0 starting cup on. And you get new ones after each race.

Rephrase, you just can't turn tire wear off, ever. It's there from doing your first race, but it's pretty hard to kill even soft tires on 2 laps of tsukuba, BUT you can if you turn off traction control and really go at it. They turn red when you spin, and clam down when you race without screeching. If you continue they will stay red and will be very slippery (damaged or used up, whatever)
