Some times iam looking for a topic i have seen once. I know it exists and i put the key words of the topic in the search. the problem is that i never get the topic i want. More precisely i get random topics :s When i don`t find it, i create a topic, asking the same questions i seen in the other topics. Then there is a random member that post the topic i was looking for i says i should use the search feature and then i get mad :ouch:

Is there any specific way, like we use on google ( "" for exemple), to find topics easier ? Sorry for making a topic but has i said I can`t find anything on search :guilty:

You're not alone there, I too have found the search functions to be a little bit hit & miss at the best of times.

Sadly there is no Google style search here, you cant just type in what you want and get the results. Their search engine is a little out dated. Reminds me of the old IBM and Apple computers back in the day.

Here is a 101 on how to search.

Like you I have given up on the search function. There is to much +,-,"",*, by the time I've figured out where to put what symbol, I either don't care anymore or forgot what I was searching for. Honestly I have never seen a search function so complicated on any site in my life:boggled:

All I can say is just ignore the people that complain about searching. Hey if it bugs them so much, ask them to find the link for you since they are the masters of search:cool:

What topic are you looking for?

Right now none. I just randomly searched for one that exists, (since i have it open in a window), putted key words there and still nothing.

May i ask you something?

If i feel having problems finding a topic, can i pm a moderator or post a topic here?

How do you know there was no difference if you weren't looking for something?

Did you know you can restrict the advanced search to a specific forum? Did you know you can restrict it to thread titles?

Moderators aren't here to help you find things. The tools I use to find threads are the same tools that are available to you.

Because i simulated i was to try out the link you gave.

I know still hadn`t luck the times i tried it :/

Give me a challenge.

Find a topic that you know exists. Then tell me roughly what it's about - you can make it as hard or as easy as you like. I'll find it using only the GTP search functions and tell you the steps I used to do so.

Recently i have created a topic with some questions about the game. It is about a lan party i will participate. with it said, try to find my topic with what you would remember the most if you read it and wanted to find it again.

The words i would use to find it would be: Lan Party

I wouldn't.

First off, "LAN" wouldn't be used in the GTP search function - vB searches are limited to words of four or more characters.

Secondly, you said you posted the topic. So I'd search GT5 + Subforums, Keywords of "Party" under titles only, Username of "Tarkata" under "threads started by" and display as "Threads":

Result:

If I got no results, I'd change it so that the keywords of party was for entire posts, not titles only. It broadens the search just that little bit.

But I wouldn't actually do any of that. You've only made 54 posts, so I'd go to your profile, click the "Statistics" tab and click "Find all threads started by Tarkata" - browsing that handful of results is much easier and takes just three clicks.

Now give me a challenge...

Now give me a challenge...

Knowing the username is easy, i know, but a real challenge would be:

So i imagine i was this afternoon copying a tune in the paper for my HKS CT230R'08..

But disaster strikes! My girlfriend tries to stab me with a kitchen knife for not paying her attention and only care about GT5!

I managed only to get the following suspension modifications:

ride height- -15/+10
spring rate- 16.5/16.5

Now with all this panic and the SWAT, Army and regular police on my house i forgot where was the topic.

So what we know:
Its a tune for a CT230R'08 and i only managed to get this information:

ride height- -15/+10
spring rate- 16.5/16.5

Good Luck Famine! 👍

Yep. Just search titles only for keywords CT230R in Drag, Drift and Tuning forums (Ctrl and click each forum you want to limit the search to). Displayed as threads there were four results and the top one was... that thread:

I will "train" the search feature a little try to find my way around it.
Sorry for making it a personal problem about it. I should have tried a little harder to make those search work.

Learning how to exploit search engines of any kind is a great way to get more information more easily. If you have an issue with learning any one search engine, it's exactly the right thing to do to ask about it.

So there's no problem!

Nice informative thread. It would be cool if you could do some kind of sticky about this somewhere Famine, with examples as above. Searching has always been a headache for many of us in here and I'm a great googlist (googler?).

I suggest your girlfriend gets her priorities right!:sly:
