On my way back from Houston to San Angelo (where I got to school and absolutely hate it) I was taking a very pleasant nap while my girlfriend drove to San Antonio. She woke me up going 'what the hell did some ricer do to that poor focus?' I woke up thinking I was about to see some kids horror story of a car...but it looked....not aftermarket. I said 'I dont think thats a focus...' in the back of my mind going 'it can't be a Ka...those are only sold in Europe.' But sure enough, it was a Ford Ka. I explained to her that you pretty much couldnt get a cheaper ford these days and that it was an ugly POS (because it is) and that it was in GT2. It didnt have any license plates, so we assume it came from Mexico (it was being driven by a hispanic man). So...the question...do they sell Ford Kas in the US? It was LHD.

They didn't sell Ka's in the USA or in Canada, but i'm pretty sure they were sold in Mexico. Like most Seats, and a few Opels badged as Chevrolets.

Yup, it was most likely a car from Mexico. HK lives in Texas, he's got all sorts of pictures of weird cars that arent sold here, I believe he's even got a few of a Ka.

Either horribly ignorant or horribly racist - funny either way.

Sidebar - Chevrolets aren't Chevrolets in Mexico, they're Chevys. That's the official name you'll see in advertisements and on cars - I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the non-phonetic ending to 'Chevrolet' in Spanish or just a brand recognition thing, but either way it's interesting - all US Chevrolets are branded as such with few exceptions.

Well...he was also hispanic...so going by 1. he was hispanic. 2. ive never seen one in the US. and 3. it had no license plates....it made sense.

I've actually seen a Eunos Cosmo up here in Oreogn, maybe it was the same one... it was grey with a spoiler on the back, not sure if that's stock or not.

It could have been, this one was dark grey...the Type S 2 rotor. I wouldn't mind having one, but I think I'd only pay for the 3 rotor. Screw the 2. :) The 3 only came with an auto...I bet there's a way to change that though.

If it was imported from europe, then why was it left hand drive? And if the mexican guy could afford to import it....why a Ka?

Rets is right. I have many photos of Mexican Kas... they're awesome cars, and it's an awesome feeling to unexpectedly run across them (or any Mexican-market only car, for that matter).

Of course, these sightings are few and far between now that I live in Houston (I used to live in the Rio Grande Valley; the cars would cross the border constantly to come shopping at our malls). I have a large collection of photographs... catch me on AIM sometime if you want to know more.

Let me know if you ever come up to Houston, by the way! :)

Uh - I think you'll find that pretty well all European countries are left hand drive. You might be thinking of England.

Ah, well, that I didnt know. I assumed that most Europeans drove on the left side, and therefore had RHD cars. Thank you for enlightening me.

The Commodores(SWB/LWB/Wagon/Ute) & Monaros are locally built & engineered. Other cars in the range(Cruze, Astra, Barina, Zafira, Combo van, Vectra, Jackaroo, Frontera & Rodeo) are sourced from Germany(Vectra & Astra) Thailand(Holden Rodeo[Isuzu Rodeo] & Zafira[Chevrolet Zafira]), Japan(Holden Cruze[Chevrolet Cruze], Holden Jackaroo[Isuzu Bighorn] & Holden Frontera[Isuzu Wizard]) & Spain(Barina[Opel/Vauxhall/Chevrolet Corsa] & Combo van)

Im sorry this post sickens me. Im from the UK and the Ka is the most annoying little POS that u will see. You can get them for 4,995 britsh pounds (dunno $) and i have never seen one moded or tuned. Prob cause their lack of expansion room and screwed up body shape. They are measley city runabouts and do 40-50mpg on like a 1.1l engine. THEY SUCK!

The only reason they suck is "lack of expansion room" and "screwed-up body shape"? Otherwise it actually sounds pretty decent - 40-50mpg and just $8400 for a brand new car. And I don't even know what 'expansion room' is.

How can you like this?

It looks like a cartoon car. It looks like it should be walking on it's wheels like the car from "Who framed roger rabbit"!! It is a girly car. It's even available in pink!!

Personally I don't like the Ka, but they're actually pretty good. Yes, the styling is girly, but it's intended to appeal to women, so it's right for its intended market niche. They're nice inside, and are economical, cheap to insure, cheap to buy.

Quite a lot going for it in fact.

It's cheap and very efficient, 40-50 mpg is awesome. I'll also say it's got a lot going for it.

Why get a small Ka, when you can have one of these

323.jpg

My previous car was a 1500cc Mazda 323. I consistantly got 43mpg in it. It'll be more reliable too. I had it for 3 years and the only bit I had to buy for it was a part for the suspension that cost £138. There's more room for passengers and luggage and it looks a helluva lot better.

And I know M5Power isn't interested in looks!

when i say expansion room, i mean tehres no where to improve, like maybe a better stereo, or cd changer. If you put one in you'd lose the precious boot space u already have. In terms of body kits i doubt any1 would try. Any spoiler on the back would be pointless and an air intake on the front would be completely weird. Any1 fancy chopping a picture of one. I would if i could.

now there is the street ka which is the convertible version. Now i don't mid this too much. It aint as bad as the original.

I quite like the streetka, just wish it was more sport orientated, rather than hairdressing orientated.

Not that hairdressing cannot be considered a sport, of course.

That is now my life's ambition, to buy a ka and stick a V8 engine in it, bodykit it and make it into a supercar just to prove ExigeExcel wrong  anyone with me? :odd:

if u take out EVERY thing, drivers seat and all u might fit a V8 in. But u would have to do a Mr-Bean and drive form the roof
