Do we need a track editor?

I think the "no"-option should have been split into:

- no, GT5 doesn't need that, even if it would not cost us any features
- no, because we probably would have to sacrifice other features for that

Crucial difference there, since it seems a lot of people would accept a track editor but still voted "no" because they think it would lead to more important features being left out.

...I also think that it's too late for that now.

I'm still not sure if many people out there simply aren't grasping the incredible amount of depth that high-quality (that's the key word, assuming GT's editor is robust) user-generated tracks would add to the game. I began playing PC sim rFactor, which is very popular with the "modding" community, earlier this year, and the nearly endless selection of circuits from around the world has completely changed the way I view racing games. If it comes to fruition, this will be a very, very big deal.

How about a livery editor first:idea:?

The cars, without question, have to be the stars of any GT game, so I believe some sort of customization of cars' appearances should come before any track editor. I cannot envision being able to rearrange parts of existing tracks to make one single track before the ability to change the paint on my car or before the ability to add a vinyl to a Vette's hood. However, I do think a track editor is a neat idea, but it's not a must-have yet for me, at least. There will be many crazy and silly tracks.....But hell, if they can add the two together, then we really may be seeing the most gigantic and content filled racing game ever. To date.

Come on, would you really rather have the ability to slap a couple logos on your cars than the ability to create tracks and play other people's tracks?

Yes. Not to mention it would be much easier, more tasteful, and more easier to implement in a game.

I would think a fully customizable "paint shop" would be the better word. And yes I would take it over a track editor. Especially a very detailed paint shop. Paint individual body panels, parts, wheels, etc.

Example.

Changing the color of the hood would be 1 "Body Panel."

Changing the color of the right rear wheel would be 1 "wheel."

Changing the color of the right rear coil spring, would be 1 "part."

I'm talking very detailed.

Really? How is that going to be THAT fun? There will be hundreds of thousands of tracks and you expect me to race them all? I don't see that happening realistically. I'd rather admire other peoples' unique rides than race on a track made by another gamer. How the heck will enough racers want to race on that track?

I can see there being a contest or something. The winner's track will be in GT6 or something. Other than that, I'm not sure...

Well, obviously most of the tracks would be terrible. But there might be a small handful of well-made tracks based on real ones.

In dept GT AUTO> In depth Track editor.

Now, that's if only one can be added. However, if the two can both be added, that would be awesome.

I would never use it. If it's in it's a waste of time for developers and for us, just like gt psp.

If one thinks a livery editor is more important than a good track editor, you are probably playing the wrong game. An infinite amount of corners to drive on takes much precedence over simply "looking good". Dynamic weather is more important than either though.

Wrong. The game is for car enthusiasts. I bet you will find an infinite amount of people wanting to put their creativity to use in their cars than into a track.

I agree with your weather statement, though.

Ok, I changed my mind. If it's more sophisticated and in-depth than what's in Forza, then yes, I'd rather have a livery editor in GT5 than a track editor.

But I think we're getting a track editor. And it'll be a good addition to the series regardless of whether we get a livery editor or not.

I hope I didn't misleasd anyone. I'm all for another feature (track editor) as long as it doesn't interfere with a livery editor or weather changes. Weather should be the priority of PD, followed a good livery editor (this will attract enthusiats of all ages), and then lastly a track editor.

A livery editor would be great, but ultimately I think the two of us want vastly different things out of Gran Turismo. You're looking for an artistic outlet, I'm looking for a realistic driving simulator. The opportunity to enjoy driving on and learning the greatest and most famous racetracks around the world is vastly more important to me than adding "a vinyl to a Vette's hood".

Of course I want to experience the real world tracks, but we're referring to fictional tracks made by users. Those are two completely different ideas. Either way, a livery editor/track editor will be very time consuming. I don't want that to distract me from the actual racing. I'll still take them though! :)

I want a weather editor.:)
Genius! 💡

On a more serious note, no, I don't think GT5 needs a track editor. Because creating tracks (especially good and realistic ones) requires a lot of work, and I frankly can't see how PD could make a track editor that would be both intuitive and capable enough at the same time. I mean, GT5 is a game, not a CAD-program! ;) Besides, there are more important features that PD should implement, like the livery editor or damage.

I agree with most other people here. Weather and day/night is more important. But if there is a track editor, I will be pleased.

sounds great to have it, I will have hours wasted trying to recreate street roads where i live, but I agree with many, I would rather see dynamic weather!

I would rather see real world tracks instead of a track editor! Track Editors are for kids!:sly:j/k

:grumpy:

I think it would be an interesting addition to have, but the only tracks I'd probably make are large ovals and short tracks.

I've added a poll, I can change the text if you like... I also made it a public vote, but I can change that if you want...

Maybe we should have a poll to find out?... :p It might be interesting, and it probably won't do much harm, especially since we already have other threads to discuss the issues.

Thanks. It's just fine :)

On a side note: If they do implement the track editor, then don't you think it'd be close to the same program(s) they use to make tracks themselves? And looking at how much of their time the tracks take it would take forever for a single person to model a good and accurate track. And if it would be that user-friendly, then why can't PD model extra tracks themselves (with licensing of course)?

But what stops those who have the necessary skills from recreating the real life tracks which are missing from the game in the editor? Sure, there will be a bootload of bad stuff, but I am absolutely certain that the few excellent ones will stand out and spread among the crowd quickly. Bathurst. Spa. Monza. Fiorano. Why not just make them ourselves?

I'm with Jordan, I'd rather have that than a livery editor. And I don't really understand how anyone would think differently, since in the end, I'm sitting in a virtual cockpit to drive. Knowing that I'm sitting in a car that looks great is nice, but driving on a legendary track is nicer ... in my book.

Why do people want unnecesary crap.
You'll have more then enough tracks and different formats of racing to keep you satisfied.
Hold on lets make a track that goes around in a circle or maybe one with corners.!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we don't need track editor (escpecialy if we get many tracks) but it would be really great to have possibility to put cones (and checkpoints, start/finish point) on tracks... or on some place like Gymkhana from GT4.

Come on, it would be endless fun and make GT5 interesting even more. If we all vote for it they will include it and push the release date a little bit, say 5 to 10 months. :sly:

We can deal with that, can we?

Seriously, I don't belive it will be in, but I wouldn't have believed that they were finally going to do damage. So who knows? If there really is a track editor I'm gonna build the track of my dreams: My hometurf mountain pass.

I just don't understand how you expect YOUR tracks to stand out online (if that's even possible). You're banking on the idea that people will come across your track and suddenly want to race on it? I'd fear that if I made a cool track that I'd be the only one riding it, or maybe with a buddy or two. (Note: If there is a track editor, hell, that's awesome! I just hope it doesn't come before weather and other things).

With a livery editor, the whole world will see your ride! I cannot imagine how many folks would love to create unique looks for their rides. There is a reason it's a real-life hobby and passion for many. I can see a 60 year old painting a 1959 Chevrolet Impala and at the same time I can see a 15 year old customizing a 2009 Lamborghini Reventón. That's beautiful; seeing people from two different eras customizing popular cars of their times.

...And for that very reason in red: I firmly believe Livery editor> Track editor. Gran Turismo: Connecting people of all ages.

Noooo... Gran Tursimo: The real Driving Simulator.

And I believe Tracks have alot more to do with driving then a bit of paint on a car. I'd rather a track editor then a Livery editor.
