Well, chaps like Copperfield and Zenon. Are they legit? I watched a Paul Zenon show over the weekend, and usually I am just as skeptical as the next guy, but there were some instances that just couldnt be excused as "illusion".

EG. In the one scene he took the top off a Heineken, emptied the contents and "knocked" the bottle top into the bottle through the bottom of the bottle. Couldnt figure it out. Then, he put his hand over the Heineken label, and when he removed his hand, the label was on the inside of hte bottle. :confused:

Also, I cant explain Copperfields flying trick ( I attended a show where he flew over the audience), Copperfields sawing in half trick when he uses a 1 inch think table and no sheets to cover the volunteer and more.

Is there magic?

What does believing in ghosts (which I havent seen proof either way) have to do with magic tricks?
 
If you take a TV and a remote control to an isolated tribe in Paupa New Guinnea and flip channels they will think it is magic, similarly with a simple tape recorder; they will think their spirit is trapped in the strange box. All magic is just tricks. Not understanding how they are all done doesn't make them "magical".
 
"Magic" and "illusion" are two separate things. Personally I think that all these tricks rely upon "illusion", and that's usually predicated on misdirection.

Therefore I don't believe in magic.
 
I think it depends on your definition of Magic and Magical. This includes super natural and suspision I guess.
 
The only magic that really interests me is the sorcery kind, not the illusionist kind. It might beimpressive, but illusion ulimately disappoints.
 
From the religious corner:

When God exiled Lucifer and all of his followers from heaven, it was because of arrogance on the part of lucifer; he thought that he was more powerful than God himself. Even though God was infinitely more powerful, Satan did have some power when he was exiled from heaven (quite a good bit of it too, or we wouldn't have to worry about him). So when people perform real magic, they are actually calling on the power of Satan to help them use it (never to help anyone, as Satan hates everything God-breathed). Fortunately, if anyone has been saved by Grace etc. then they cannot be touched by this stuff (as is said in the bible...).

From another corner:

Deceptive magic is fun; especially card tricks. I know a few good ones myself that all involve the art of deception. It's all in good fun as long as you're using them honestly etc. Well, that's my $.02...

Anyway, no, magic is all about illusion. I was very interested in magic as a child and had a number of books with both simple and large-level tricks... really, it's almost stupid how simple some of those tricks are, yet they're so effective. A big part of magic is also acting, because you need to know how to set your audience into the proper mindset, and more importantly, how to direct their attention away from where the trickery is occurring.

No, I don't believe in "magic". But I like to be tricked by a professional, especially when I know they aren't taking my money. The odd card or rope trick still interests me and shows I don't know it all.

That's exactly what magicians are all about. I'm sure guys like Copperfield would make great actors.

Nope, I don't believe in magic. I do however like watching them perform the trick and think about how they are able to do it. It's all about being sneaky.
 
Did any of you ever watch that magics greatest secrets revealed show where tha masked guy showed how all sorts of tricks were done. There was an interesting one where they took an M1 tank and made it dissapear, i forgot how they did it but it was pretty sneaky.
 
I dont belive in magic (Harry Potter) but i do like the Illusions performed by magicians.
