Do you Host? what's your Download/Upload speed?

I host all my races but can only race with around 8 people. Every other time most people disconnect. This really sucks because when Suzuka get full I still end up the host and have to quite racing for a while.

My connection from that website:
Download Speed: 2625 kbps (328.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 435 kbps (54.4 KB/sec transfer rate

Anyone figure out how not to host a race??

If you've got a PC or laptop connected to the web near where you play GT5P, try streaming media or downloading a file during the "finding other players" matching screen. One you see "joining race", terminate the stream or download to prevent unnecessary lag in the race and enjoy!*

As for me - I'm running 17,326 kbps down and 1,987 kbps up (over a wireless connection) per the speakeasy.net speed test, and host pretty much every race.

* - at least, until the host quits on you. :)

I host around 90% of races. I started with a wireless but it's now hardwired to maximize the connection. I am not sure if this is common knowledge but I have also set up Port Forwarding with my router:

"opening UDP Port 3658 on your router/modem with UPnP enabled can help make for a more stable online racing experience. Your router instruction manual or manufacturer will be able to assist you with opening ports or "Port Forwarding."

quoted from here

I have a cable connection with 9023kbps down and 494kbps up. I can't believe some of the speeds that are reported here... wow

you know you are hosting the race because:

- you are first on the player list
- your client says "creating game" instead of "joining game" after player matching ;)

1.6mbps down/260kbps up. I host occasionally, the maximum I've hosted so far with no lag at all is 12 players.

Rarely host, but there have been a few times. If the room is over 10 players, lag is almost certain. I really hope PD put in an option: "I do not wish to host games." Some connections just can't take it and with all the fuss over people dumping rooms, this would help a little.

Wow, I hosted a race just now (600pp suzuka). I Couldn't believe what I saw though, cause my connection is just too bad to host a race. To my own surprise, I got about half way through the esses on lap 1 (I was first) before the connection gave up.

Sorry to everyone in that race (mr volcano was is that race), but I didn't quit myself and accually the race shouldn't have started in the first place. It was never going to last the 3 laps.

My connection is
1547 down
138 up
(both in KBPS)
with spec I, Japaneses version, I use to host few games.
With Spec II US version, I never hosted a game.

My speed is 1500 down and 256k up and I'm almost always the host. I have trouble with more than 4-6 cars, but have hosted up to 9 to a complete race.

I suspect the host selection has more to do with latency than speed, and I haven't found a way to opt out as the host. I'm also pretty sure PD doesn't keep up with my success rate.

My speed is 11 374 kbit/s down / 681 kbit/s up.

I rarely host races in the evenings, but sometimes earlier in the day.
Perhaps this is because of my location (norway) ?

7000 down 512 up with rogers cable in the dirty 'shwa.

i'm almost never the host and i, too, think latency/location is the key to who hosts the race

I just found something that may explain why all of us with fast connections have grueling Download times on our PS3.

On my PC the speed test was 6503 down and 1599 up.

On the PS3 it was 3331 down and 1488 up.

No wonder it takes fives days to download a demo, or a system update!

Has anyone else been able to verify this oddity? It just really irritating when after 15 mins a GTTV vid is still barley started.

I have noticed something really odd over the past few days. We are on a shaped plan here with our ISP and once we exceed our download limit, our connection speed is reduced to 64kbps. We hit our limit last Friday and accordingly our connection speed up and down was throttled back to 64k. I was reluctant to enter online races as I was concerned I would cause disruptions to other racers with lag etc. My fanaticism was too much and I ended up racing with some mates on Sunday.
Now here is the interesting bit. My mates confirmed that I didn't seem to be running with any noticeable lag. Even more alarming/interesting I even hosted a few small field races (up to a max of 8). I again entered a few races last night and hosted 1 out of the 4 events I contested. My experience raises questions about just how good a connection you need to race online and just how smart the selection process is for selecting hosts. Does anyone have an idea why my pitiful connection speeds still allow me to race and even host events?

I have noticed the exact same thing.

1.6mbps down/260kbps up. I host occasionally, the maximum I've hosted so far with no lag at all is 12 players.
Update: I have a faster connection now: 8Mbit down/1Mbit up. It appears I am now host very often. :) Maximum is now 16 players.

I host alot of races... probably around 70%. My connection is

15271 down
2169 up

I live in Denmark by the way. And have hosted several races with 16 players.

My connection is 3Mbit down and 1,5Mbit up. GT5p makes me host almost everytime. There were problems with cars flying everywhere when I was host, but now it's just OK and although some little car skipping could be observated, I really enjoy the races.
