A friend got a DFGT and couldn't get to grips with it. He didn't really persevere with it and went back to what he knew which was the DS3 which he is pretty quick with. He just didn't have or take the time to get used to the wheel.

I have a wheel (DFGT) and initially was slower with it as I had got relatively proficient with the controller. After a week or two of extensive practice I found the wheel to be quicker and particularly helpful with consistency. That consistency coupled with a certain outright speed is what help me in longer races. The main improvement came with re learning certain track / when to turn in and how much to turn the wheel. I also dropped the automatic gears and driving line around the same time. Even if I use a DS3 now I use manual gears and just with ABS=1 and have found using the wheel has also made me more consistent with the DS3.

I suspect I wouldn't still be playing the game if I hadn't got the wheel about 18 months ago. In my opinion, with a wheel it is miles above any other PS3 driving game even if they are also played with a wheel.

I use a ds3 as there is no space to put a wheel in my front room and plus I wouldn't get use to it

I used to have a DFGT and it took me a while to get used to it. Now I just got a fanatec gt3 rs v2 (which I highly recommend over the g27) just got it a week ago and I'm already beast with it I'm in tune with the h pattern the pedals and everything.

I use both equally.

You do? That sounds difficult. I use a G27 for GT5, but I still pop in some of the old GTs occasionally and it's always a struggle for me to transition between controller and wheel.

In my humble opinion, if you want to get the most "driving simulator" experience out of the game, have to have a wheel, and a quality one at that.
If you just enjoy racing video games, the controller is probably fine, though the wheel is more fun either way :P

It's quite simple. I'm very used to both DS3/DS2 and the wheel. I use the DFGT in both GT4 and GT5.
I'm looking to get a G25 soon. Drifting in GT5 with the wheel took me a few days to get used to.

I like the wheel because to me it is more fun and you feel more in control of the car.

Yeah there's a reason they attach those to real cars instead of DualShock controllers hehe

I highly recommend the G series, they're great wheels; durable, good feel, work well.

Yeah. It feels odd not having a clutch pedal and an H-shifter. That's why I really want to get the G25 soon.

the only advantage to ds3, easy to just pick it up and play, money not the only prob for wheel,,,,but dedicating space for it. Not interested in having game room

Long time pad user and now dfgt user. No comparison - the dfgt kills the pad in every way. Except I wish I had a g25/7.

Wheel for me can't use a controller for racing games now . Had dfgt till the pedals stopped working last year now got thrustmasters T500rs and shifter no turning back now. Just need a decent set up don't think my glass coffee table can take much more abuse lol.

Lol someone's got a lot of money on their hands!

I've been using my steering wheel for so long, I would find it hard to go back to using a controller again.

There's probably a thread for this already.

I use both equally.

Welcome to :gtpflag:

Using both threads equally? ;)

I prefer the steering wheel for driving, but the DS3 is a lot better for navigating the menus and for using photomode. It also has the advantage that you can walk around with it and sit wherever you want. The wheel is a quite clumsy to move around...

Its a personal preference thing but for me once I had a good quality wheel like the Fanatec GT3 RS v2 there's no going back to a controller. I wouldn't bother playing if all I had was a dual shock type controller. And now that I have even better gear, Fanatec CSW w/BMW rim and CSP v2, even more so.

How do u do that? I can't stand driving with my controller anymore it just feels more artificial and fake.

I just feel more comfortable using ds3 online for some reason. The "fake" feeling doesn't bother me too much. Also I don't have the best rig setup for my wheel. Its a big bulky wooden desk I put together to fit in front my small couch or gaming rocker chair.

When I can afford a legit setup that does sway and creek with every move then I will probably use my DFGT full time. Also, my hard wood floor would get scratched up if I use my wooden setup in my current house. I do miss using my wheel all the time though. =/

Well I love my setup... a playseat SV with a T500 with an H-pattern shifter, 6 massive speakers and a three screen setup
