Do you really spend time on practice tracks?

I have only loaded one practice track after I bought a new car just to try the car out. Didn't even complete a lap. I'm yet to really use the practice races as i see no point, I just gain my practice from actual events. How many of you actually use these practice races? and for what? simple practice and no reward?

I think they are great and i use them befor an endurance race to get the right tuning on the car. If you are racing for +60 rounds 2 seconds per round do make a difference

The practice mode as it stands now is pretty useless unless you want to try a car on a track that would otherwise be unavailable for that car. For example some races in A spec mode restrict only certain types of vehicles, but I want to try a different car that I could not use to enter that race. Honestly I feel that practice mode should be where we can post up lap times with info on specific car and horsepower on the leaderboards. Divide the leaderboards up into horsepower brackets for each track. Then we can see if we can beat someone's lap time given similar horsepower restrictions for any given track. It would make it more competitive among friends too, similar to Need for Speed Hot Pursuit's autolog feature.

I like to test settings on them and try to get best laps. Furthermore, not all the tracks are used in the events so you're missing out.

I don't use them for 'practice' just for doing hotlaps trying to beat my best times. It's like arcade but a few button clicks faster if I'm already in GT mode.

Personally practice is big part of the game for me, setups, hotlaps, general messing around in cars on whatever track I fancy.
The ultimate GT hit though is still online with ma mates, headsets a necessity so I can hear the screams of anguish after punting someone into a barrier....oops :D

I practice all the time. I always have. It's a good way to get familiar with tracks and form your own racing line.

Before I practice in sunday cup, now i practice in the expert series.. this way i earn money plus I also get to know my car's characteristics more:D

I use practice tracks just to test out my brand new cars/race cars. Tracks used: SSR7, Circuit de la sarthe, high speed ring.

Hmmm.....call me weird....but i i used the practice mode just to enjoy a car....i drive slow...fast... get over bumps, spin on the gravel, try to make the car spin....mess with the low and high beams...hit the breaks and rev......put the car in a complete stop, pull the handbreaks..and start revving...hit the hand breaks while at 200mph+....well you get it the idea, its kinda like a free roaming mode for me...and it just feels relaxing.

Then again i do test my times and try to get the line when i'm serious..but thats just 10% of what i do in practice. :)

I think I may put practice mode to use later on today. I'm getting quite frustrated with the nurburgring le mans set up and keep losing for the dream car. Well not losing, but I always get 2nd cause I end up screwing up along the way some how. Looks like i may need to throw a little practice in to master the ring and finally get my gold.

I do this all the time too :D

I love to just take some random stock car to nurburgring at drive a lap or two with it. You know the cars that you will never use for a race but they are still fun to drive.

90% of the cars i buy are useless in races so i take them to Fuji in practice and go crazy. there is nothing as fun as doing 3rd gear burnouts on top of a big Coca Cola logo :)

I think its one of the best parts of the game but they could award credits for the same make races you can do in the practice mode, mostly used to click over mileage in cars that i have in garage, i might be crazy but thats what i use it for

50% of the time. Spend a lot of time learning tracks and tuning the cars.

People who spend time practicing are the ones likey to go faster, get all golds in licenses and special events. And if you think "oh I could just race on aspec and make money" that is entirely false because you will always push harder in races and usually drives way too hot because of competition.

Not at all at this point. I would rather being earning money as xp. There is some kind of race on most of the tracks anyway so it is not hard to use the races as practice unless you want to practice in a really slow car.

All the time! I practically live on the 'Ring or Sarthe when I'm not progressing thru a/b-spec. Practice makes permanent, so I strive for perfection during my trials on practice tracks. :)

Hell yeah! I use it to tune a car`s setup after giving it a generic setup and to get a preview of a upcoming race on a track. Also a bit of LSD tuning for drifting my mach 1 for kicks!

I never been to the practise track. I just go straight out and try and A race with a new car, even if i dont get gold, i get some XP and credit.

What?? Practice mode is awesome. Sometimes I just have a craving for driving a certain car on a certain track, i.e. BMW M Coupe + Nurburgring :)

I've always used practice mode a lot in GT games. Especially when you just buy random cars for no reason, or just to see what kind of lap time they can do on your favourite track. Also, I like to have a couple 'home' tracks where I can see what my fastest car is.

Also! Top Gear power laps!

I use it occasionally at the moment but when I complete everything I will use it all the time, I love to take a bunch of cars and do my fastest lap and see how they compare, that is and always has been the best part of Gran Turismo for me.

50% of my GT experience is in practice mode. I especially love taking newly purchased cars, completely stock, and driving them on the Nurburgring to see what my lap times are. I then compare them to the real life times and see how close I am, or how close I can get....or if I can better them.

Same here for the most part, in fact, the "game" portion of GT, I just consider work, win the events so I can gain enough money and XP to purchase the cars I really want, and go hot lapping. To me GT is about experiencing the cars on your own, not really racing them against the computer.
