Do you think perhaps Kaz's interest in GT as a game is actually waning? (TITLE EDITED

Well, Kaz is an employee of SONY. Until he becomes the president or buys it outright, he still has to obey the board and pres himself. And if you know anything about Japanese corporate/social politics, it's a very confining system. You basically do what you're told unless you're irreplaceable. And even Ken Kutaragi, the father of the Playstation, wasn't.

Precisely!
Now for Kaz its you must be a "Corporate team player" and serve the "Corporate goals" and the "Corporate mission" and the "Corporate objectives" and the "Corporate way" ad nauseum.

Kaz is no longer a "free agent", but instead must adhere to every word that proceeds from the "Corporate Bulls**t machine".

But even then, you're right that you can't blame it all on SONY. It's pretty obvious that GT5 was a work in progress for various reasons until the last few months, so... look what we got. ;)

No you can't. Nobody made him get in bed with Sony.
I have to assume he did it of his own freewill, although I'm confident they painted him quite a rosey picture.

Even so, and I know this is as "what if" as one of Devendander's suppositions, but I have to think that if Kaz and his team hadn't been yanked around during those last five years, GT5 would have been a different game.

I have to agree.
Kaz's marriage to Sony is the one common denominator (at least that I know of) in this GT5 debacle.

Personally I believe the clues were there all along but I didn't want to believe them.

PD had always been a SONY thing. They were an official internal dev team to begin with. I think after GT2 PD got a little more independence as a subsidiary of Sony.

Sony are going to pushing the direction to some extent, but I think you are overstating things a little here.

I am guessing you have never interacted with "Corporate Japan" much....

Maybe, but I doubt it.
Look at GT4 and to some extent even GT3. Then look at GT5.

It would be difficult to realize without prior knowledge, that GT5 was a progression of those done by the same company.

GT5 isn't anywhere near what Kaz has produced in the past.
Therefore I must assume there is a reason for that.
The most logical indicator on a reason, for me at this point, is Sony's influence.
Possibly there are many other reasons.
But for now they are my prime suspect, and the best one, IMHO.

Actually Japan is a very hierarchal culture. You can be the most brilliant person alive but if you are a new employee fresh out of college you'll be on the bottom rung and won't be listened to. But you are right - you do what you are told. Having worked nearly 10 years with Japanese engineers on billion dollar programs, I've had some interesting insights in the good, the bad, and the ugly of Japanese culture (both work and outside of work).

The only time I ever saw him looking stressed out was when he was holding the PSP to unveil GT Mobile at E3 2009. In fact, he looked about ready to cry. It looks to me that he hated that decision by SONY as much as anything. At least to me it's plausible. ;)
STOP. SAYING. THIS.
GTPSP was not forced on anybody. We know it was not forced on PD to develop in the middle of GT5. We know that Kaz himself was probably the one who made the decision to take time away from GT5 to develop it. We know these thing because Kaz said that was what happened. Kaz was the one who refused to allow another developer to make the game. Sony was not.

That's probably the 'excuse' (for the lack of a better word) I've read the most on here, so far. Dunno, do you really think it's all Sony's fault? With Kaz being SCE's vice president and all, it seems kinda, you know, unlikely.
There are some things in GT5 that may have been handed down from up high. I'm guessing that 3D was probably an idea from Sony rather than SCE, in order to try to drive 3DTV sales. If that was the case, then Kaz could be honest-to-god President of SCE and he still wouldn't have a say in it.

Yeah, that probably accounts for 3D and headtracking. Some people around here, though, act like (almost) every negative aspect in GT5 is Sony's fault, while Kazunori and PD are nothing but the poor victims of Sony.
