Well, there's always Shuffle Racing...
It strikes me PD have missed a big opportunity (not that that's any surprise!) to turn this into an excellent feature. It could be SO much better.
Right now, what we have is Entry Level, or Tier One Shuffle Racing. POS daily drivers, on POS tires. It needs to go to the next level. A BIT better cars, on a BIT better tires. Then another Tier... All the way up to ALMS cars, on racing softs.
Now that the PP system has been enabled, it also needs to restrict the fastest cars, and get them all on IDENTICAL PP ratings. Do away with the slowest guy getting the fastest car next race. Just make the cars random.
But I like the idea of restricting entry to the higher Tiers until you win a certain number of races. Otherwise, no-one will race Tier 1, and everyone will be hooning around in ALMS cars completely out of control. Say 50-100 wins before you can progress. This will make the highest Tiers the best drivers, too, and give a REASON to work on your driving (because you sure can't out-muscle your opponents..!). And a certain minimum number of racers before the win counts.
There might be an opportunity to have the Tiers restricted to certain aids off by default. Or at least, if you get 50 wins with Skid Recovery on, you only get to race Tier 2 Shuffle races that enable the feature. Want to race Tier 2 with aids off? Got to win in aids off Lobbies...
In a way, this sounds a LOT like matchmaking, but it's a bit more structured. Not the free for all that things are currently, though. Simple random races against random drivers rarely works out to be good racing, but OTOH, racing with good clean drivers is rarely as varied in car selection or track selection. I think there's room for a balance between the two.
The best outcome of my system would be, at the highest levels, drivers will ONLY be racing those with the highest skills, in the fastest cars with the grippiest tires, but you don't have to join an elite Racing Club to do it! Anyone, from anywhere will quickly be able to get a good race at his or her level.
What do you think?
