Do You Use SFR?

I don't use any aids online myself, ABS excepted. Can anybody explain how SRF works? Maybe PD should do away with SRF and replace it with Electronic stability control (ESC), which is something most modern road cars actually use.

srf

its skid recovery ( i think )

it gives you more grip you loose grip

Thanks for the reply, but that's not really the kind of explanation I was after.

Many people have said using it is cheating. How so? Does it increase the amount of grip the tyre has to the road (obviously not possible in real life), or does it operate like a Electronic Stability Control (a real system on some modern road cars). I'm not being clever in any way, nor am i stupid. I was merely asking if anyone knew the technical in and outs of the system.

its not realistic

just more grip not Electronic or something its really for begginer who dont know how to handle a car

any Electronic you find in modern car its called traction control or vdc
but skid recovery something only in games i hope that what you want !!

Can't vote cause I only use it for the X2010 and I haven't driven that car since I finished the game. No other cars needs it imo.

It's a start. VDC is a subaru brand name (ESC) is the technology.

GT5 doesn't seem like much of a Real Driving Simulator while SRF is in the game. ESC I could accept. I always turn SRF off in any race I host.

Saying that using SRF is cheating is such a stupid thing that makes me want to :banghead:. I personally almost don't use, but if I have to, I don't mind:)

That would be the only thing I'd use SRF on, the X2010, the vehicle (I can't bring myself to call it a car) should have been omitted IMO. Then we wouldn't need any SRF.

I see your point, there are similar devices in "real life" but they are complex and you have to wonder if the SRF in GT5 is replicating these by taking over and making other adjustments to throttle, brake etc. or stopping the skid in a much more basic, wholly unrealistic way.

Do you use this feature?
(Dont turn this into a comparo thread about "SFR is faster vs no sfr is realer")
I just want to if you use it or not.

"A Yes or No Question"

I use it almost every opporotunity I get, just because I'm not very good at GT5:dopey:

Respect the OP he was very clear from the get go.

I like it to be turn off in public servers to keep it a fair playing field for all, in private servers with friends if I know they're strugglin to keep up without it but will push me with it I dont mind it on, dont like to use it personally because although i'd be quicker with it I feel im cheating my personal driving ability :)

It could make the car fly, it wouldn't make GT5 any less realistic. It's optional, so SRF being in the game has no effect on the realism. GT5 is a simulator, not an attempt to make an artificial reality (oxymoron?).

Zackly! I find it mystifying when people say "I don't use it and it's not realistic at all and shouldn't be in the game"...jeez just don't use it then, you do have a choice and it makes the game way much more fun for those who do find the game harder, and/or want a quick racing fix.

using technology to help you its ok like active steering or what ever it is

the sfr or sfr what ever for begginers i turn tcs and skid recovery off when i host

when i enter a random room every player that entered the track i check his name what things he is using

actully i got confused when i saw skid recovery in first time

Yes or no question!
Depends, FR in the rain using a racing wheel where it is super easy to overcorrect, then yes. Snow racing, no. Drifting, no.

I use it sometimes, specially in ovals with powerfull cars (with ds3 is more controllable by far), otherwise I don't.

I didn't even know what it was until the (challenging) seasonal events came up and everybody was talking about whether it was doable without SRF. And I haven't used it since I found out either. The only gold left for me to take is the X2010 Suzuka challenge, and I'm not tempted to activate SRF to make it easier. What I'm saying is that it's perfectly possible to gold everything (leaving aside Suzuka for now) without SRF activated, and more enjoyable (if you like to be challenged) too.

Sometimes, for example, I used SRF on the Sebastien Loeb Chamonix, TCS 0, ASM 0, ABS 1 and SRF, golded it by 10 seconds

From day one I never used it, bumped all settings to realistic. Going to try it later. Have no idea what it would feel like.

It's easy to be critical of SRF, but it's in the game for a reason...

Not all people who buy GT5 are hardcore GT fans. A lot will be general gamers. For those people, sitting on their couch, using a DS3, with little experience of driving, but wanting to drive some of the top end road cars or racing cars, SRF is a way for them to enjoy those cars without having to be great drivers.

In fact if I enter a random online race and finish say 2nd to a guy using Srf I class my 2nd place as a win, I don't even count Srf assisted cars as being in the race.

It's just another driving aid, because this is a GAME:dunce: But cheating?! C'mon...

@mrkevans - After reading your posts and then your signature I just

How the simple minded are so easily amused, Srf should have no place in a driving simulator like gt5
