Hand built in the 1920's as a one-off, the Doble E-20 is a remarkable machine. Regarded as being the finest steam car ever made, the E-20's complex steam engine produces approximately 150 bhp and 1,000lb/ft of torque. This particular Doble was owned by Howard Hughes, who reportedly hit 132.5 mph in the beast, which was a huge feat in the 20's. weighing in at 2.5 tonnes and with a price tag of a whopping $25,000 (in 1925!), the E-20 is a machine of epic proportions.

Here is a link to a fascinating video of the cars owner, Jay Leno, explaining how this beautiful machine works:

Doble E-20 Steam car would be a great edition to the gran turismo lineup as it will be the first steam car in a motor racing game.

For it's other fellow competitors please refer to the alternative Fuel Sources page under Steam cars.

So it has a 'steering wheel' in a steering wheel?

Well, someone was going to do it even if it was just stupid nonsense.

Underwhelming power, but man, that torque. Wonder if we'd be able to mod the engine at all. How does the engine work anyway?
