Dodge Dart: DEAD?

There's a big difference between basic maintenance and actual problems. I think his point was that they're selling well enough where they're common for oil changes/tire rotations/etc.

Still, it ain't as though the Cherokee (and the Renegade for that matter) are shining examples of quality engineering and performance. That Getrag automatic will be the death of both of them, I'd bet.

I had one come in with 7,500 on the odometer burning oil from a blown head gasket.

My opinion on them was sealed from there on. I believe it had the 2.4L.

You must not have a positive opinion of any engine then because I can't think of one (new or old) that hasn't had at least one fail very early in its life cycle. Hell, I know someone who had 12,000 on his '97 12 Valve Cummins when it blew up and that is one of the most reliable engines of all time. Basing your opinion an an engine or car based on one early failure is silly, especially when they are many, many more that have been trouble free.

Before I bought my TDI I spent probably a hundred hours or more researching the new Dart, reading forums, talking to actual owners and test driving the thing and I from what I can tell it is pretty damn reliable. The automatic tranny has had a few issues (I'd get the stick anyway) but the engines seem to be pretty solid from what I understand.

Let's face it, with mass produced engines that are pumped out in the 10's of thousands every year, there's bound to be a bad apple or two or a thousand in there somewhere. You can't have total perfection, just not going to happen.

FCA is in talks with partner to build the next Dart and 200

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is currently in discussions with potential partners to build the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart even as poor U.S. sales are forcing a lengthy shutdown at one of the plants that makes them.

In Geneva, asked about the partnership search, Marchionne said, “There are discussions going on now. I think we will find a solution. We continue to talk. It’s both a technical solution and an economic one. We need to find a solution that works economically.”

FCA wants to contract out the building of its small cars to someone “who is better at it than we are and who has got capacity available,” Marchionne said. “We’re not going to make the car. We’re not the guys who are going to do the manufacturing of the car.”

Here's hoping the Fiat 124 partnership leads to Mazda supplying the next Dart (3) and 200 (6). It'd go a long way to help their reliability marks, and, have me interested in a FCA product that isn't a Jeep.

Tofa's is exporting the Fiat Tipo to Mexico as the Dodge Neon... just saying.... The Tipo is now a very sucessful project that was only intended to be sold in Italy. it only needs a better interior

What's wrong with the interior of the Tipo?
Its to Fiat and not enough Dodge IMO

I'll put my bet here, You can already see Mazda's bits in FCA cars

Seriously? Directly underneath the touchscreen on each?
What, you mean standard three rotary knobs that have been equipped in cars since the dawn of internal combustion engines? My Taurus from 2003 has the same setup, it's no coincidence that Mazda keeps suit of it's parents..

The vents. Emergency light in the middle, then the two knows and then the vents.

Exactly the same.

The vents have very similar shapes between the two cars, but it's hard to know if those two are the same size just from these photos, and if you actually count the number of horizontal slat elements between the two cars, the Mazda has 5 and the Alfa has 3.
