You should really change the title, this gen is ending and will be replaced by a new Viper.

The coming of a new Viper always makes me worried. The Viper, especially the ACR, is more than just a car, it's a symbol and a statement. It's a major car company doing the unthinkable and making a car that isn't sanitized for the masses, a brutal, savage, untamed animal of a car. It's Chrysler saying "don't worry, there are still gearheads in this industry". It's the exact car a company that wants to be sensible would not make. And it's a glorious thing.

I worry that each coming Viper would be the one that the accountants and boring businessmen get their hands on and make beige.

No, it's just another trackday special, similar to Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lotus Exige, Z06 'vette.. And doesn't ACR still have those fancy electronically adjustable pedals etc?

Except unlike your Europeans, there's no fancy gadgetry to keep the car in check, and not even the Z06 can boast over 8.0L of V10 power!:D

Sad news indeed.

I'd rather see them kill it all together than to let Fiat to turn it into some poor mans Ferrari.

Yeah sad day, but it will be revived in 2012. Please Fiat don't change the Viper, it is a savage animal. Don't make it sophisticated.
Hopefully Fiat will keep their noses out of the Viper and Chrysler will increase the displacement. :D

Pah. Take the Maser GT chassis, increase the spring rate, throw a V10 at it and call it a day.

If they would make a final viper, why make 50? I mean...50? This glory on wheels shouldn't exactly go down like that. Especially to Fiat.

Well, it isn't as though Chrysler had been selling a lot of them anyway. The final 50 seems like a fair number to create an extra-special collectors edition. But seeing as how almost every Viper is a collector car, it only magnifies that extensively.

Yeah you're right. But my bro REALLY wants to get a viper. Seeing only 50 this really hurts his chances heh heh.

There are more. They're selling these as the last 50 Dodge Vipers of the current Gen IV configuration. They still will offer the 'standard' versions, as well as the Voodoo, 1:33, and ACR-X versions. Dodge has never built the Viper in excess, but they'll still probably match the more traditional production numbers, somewhere around 1500 or so.

Good news!

Autoblog
According to The Detroit News, most of the rumors we've been hearing about the next Dodge Viper aren't true. The meanest of the Dodge models won't be riding on a modified Alfa Romeo or Ferrari platform when it bows anew in 2012 as a 2013 model. The Pentastar has said while there may be some similarities to the 8C Competizione, the Viper will make use of entirely unique underpinnings and will carry significantly different proportions compared to the Italians. Part of that means doing away with the snake's iconic long hood in favor of a design with a little more balance.

What's more, Dodge head Ralph Giles tells the Detroit daily that the Mopar supercar won't utilize a Ferrari engine for its power, though he stopped short of saying whether or not the old 640 horsepower V10 will survive the vehicle's rebirth. That means that a new lump may surface, though the number of cylinders and how much horsepower it will produce remain a mystery. Thanks for the tip, Prhime.

I'm excited to see what this thing will have going. I wouldn't be surprised to see them keep the V10 unless they can get a ton of power out of that 6.4L V8. Maybe with a supercharger slapped on?

I don't think the Viper will look right without the long hood.

*prepares 'told you so' speech when pics finally get posted* ;)

Interesting, what's the source of that sketch?

I put this vid in the Good Chrysler thread but I guess it'd be more suited here, skip to 1:29 in the video and look at the poster in the background. The Viper in the poster looks a little different...

There's going to be a new Viper, this is scary news, when I heard about the SRT-10 I was scared of it being a bit s:censored:t, but it was awesome, but still.

Dear Mopar (note: I know Dodge can't see this)

Please Mopar, make a good Viper, we want 550 horsepower+, a car that doesn't want to KILL YOU, much, and most of all, the striking looks that the Viper has had for the past 20 years

From, The sort of people who know a good car when they see it

Fiat make a lot of front wheel drives, if they made the Viper front wheel drive, I would soon be in prison for attempted murder, trying to kill Fiat

Roush Viper

a car that doesn't want to KILL YOU

No Viper has ever done that though. It's more of a track car that most everything else that isn't an Ariel Atom or Mosler.

What I really want from the next Viper are transmission and aerodynamic improvements.
