Does aim assist in Black Ops work online?

In multiplayer, I try to turn it off then back on and I feel no difference? It's not like in CoD 4 single player where it snaps onto the enemy. If I am correct CoD 4's Aim Assist only worked offline in singleplayer, not online. Is that the same for BO? I know there is sticky aim whether it's on or off, but it seems like in multiplayer the aim assist option does nothing.

Edit: What about MW2?
