Now I mean in terms of bakeries selling things like pasties, and sausage rolls, meat and potato pies, because when I went to California on holiday I didn't see any anywhere, which is a shame because I love bakery pastery products, i was just wondering if anyone could end my curiosity?

Breads have carbs, Americans think carbs are the devil for some reason so I'm guessing that's why you don't see many. Also you can get "fresh" bread at the supermarket, where most people shop anyways.

Well, it depends were you go in California. San Francisco and San Diego has alot of bakeries within city limits. Filipino Bakeries that I might add.

Go to the Asian places They're full of bakeries. Rowland Heights, Covina, etc.

If you're in NY, try Flushing.

I'm Asian so I can say it. I'll edit it if anyone really cares. Anyway, so are the various references to N***** please, but no one said much.

We have them, but they are not like how find them Europe. Its somewhat sad really :indiff: I did enjoy going and getting fresh bread when in Paris and such. Most of what you find a larger stores that typically deliver to the coffee shops and such around them, but you can buy directly; the effect is not the same though.

Oh, there's also a really good bagel shop in Arcadia but I don't know where... and Vons has a bakery. Which isn't too bad.

One of the things I missed on my travels to the US.

This reminds me of when the Scots were in Paris for the football.

"We're gonna deep fry your croissants!"

:D

Panera Bread has a good amount of what you're asking for, I think. Its a national chain of bakery and sandwich shops, known for their coffee as well. I really do enjoy going there and getting a bite from time to time, their bagels in the morning are stellar as well.

...But as for the whole pastry thing?

Its likely going to depend on where you are in the country to determine what kind of food will be available. California has far too diverse of a population to really get a good solid feel for whats out there, but go to places like Louisiana or even here in Michigan and you're likely to find something to love.

I know that at least here in the Mid-West, the Meijer chain stores have an excellent bakery in every one and sell exactly what you're looking for...
