Does anyone else find it a bit hard to go from one racing game to another ?

I was pretty good at Forza. Tryed playing it today since I have not loaded it up in a while just to see how it felt now that I am used to GT and I could not drive at all. I kept over shooting everything and by comparison Forza now feels like everything is so heavy with lots of under steer.

I say heavy because I use a wheel and feel the weight shift via the wheel. Oddly enough I was able to do well in Dirt 3 (PC version) but probably because it is more arcade and forgiving.
 
Yes. Different physics engines tend to require an adjustment period when moving between them. In a real car, there are a lot more sensory inputs to determine what it's doing, but with a video game you have to learn not only the quirks of the physics engine, but how those quirks are translated into sound effects, force feedback, etc.
 
Yep. Before GT6 came out, I was very active in a Grand Theft Auto: Online racing crew. (Go ahead and laugh, but for what the game is, the driving physics are surprisingly good, if a bit arcade-y. Great weight transfer, FF, FR, and MR all feel distinctly different.)

I tried switching back and forth and playing both for a few days and... Yeah, lesson learned. Never mix-and-match racing games. Heck, even going back to GT5 feels weird now.
 
Yes, I find it hard too. That's why I only stick to Gran Turismo, & play no other sims. That said, I don't have much problem going from GT6 to GT5, even though they're very different.
 
I expected I wasnt alone in this. I still find it so odd that I can play Dirt 2 or 3 with no issue and go back to GT but Forza.. Forget about it ! One sim at a time.
 
I used to switch between Grand Prix Legends and NASCAR 3 with Trans AM and GT add-ons. Didn't seem to matter too much as they were different cars pre aerodynamics F1 cars against late model GT and TA cars (Late 90's to early 2000's).
 
I actually had a somewhat tough time transfering from GT5 to 6. My tutorial lap (you know, the one where you're put in the Clio RS at Brands Hatch) was extremely sloppy, there was a bit of sudden wheel jerks.

5 -> 6 aside, it's always relatively tough to adjust to a new racing game. I remember driving the first race in Shift 2 and a bit raging at my GTR being simply too fast for a beginner :D
 
The thing that gets me with racing sims is they they set out to accomplish the same thing pretty much yet they all feel very different from one another. For me it is not a case of what feels real but what feels good. I have never driven a race car so how do I know if I am getting realism ? You don't I guess.
 
You think that is bad. Try going from Pac man to Ms. Pac man. :dunce: As you can see from my avatar I would know what it is like.
 
I go back and forth between GT6 & FM4 on a daily basis. Yeah, they are different, but switching from one to the other is no issue at all for me, as I am so used to both. Readjusting has never cost me even one race. The racing game I really want to go back to is Test Drive Unlimited (the first one on the 360), but that one will probably take a little while to readjust to, as I haven't played it in a long time and feels very different from both Gran Turismo and Forza.
 
As a long-time GT fan, I've never been able to drive well in Forza. I feel like it's a change that will require more than a few hours of adjustment. I've spent many hours in a row with Forza 4 and I was never able to adjust very well. To me, the cars in Forza don't feel like they're actually touching the road. It's a really odd sensation and it makes it difficult for me to judge what the car is actually doing.
 
I frequently change between GT6, pCars, iRacing, Assetto Corsa , both rFactors, GTR 2 and SimBins Race series.
I suck at all of them..wonder why?? :sly:

I bought the original Grid when I was playing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

I played the bit where you do a lap to get a quick feel for the game. It went back in the box. Worst £18.69 I have ever spent. :)

I simply don't have the ability to play two different feeling racing games at my age. Where did I put that controller ;)

But then there's Need For Speed...

Well, even going from car to car took me a while to adjust.. they like have different steering angle or something..
 
when I played shift and grid AND GT5p i always liked to think each one made me better at the other
nowadays I stick to GT

Scrap that; it's easy to go from GT6 to GT5 without spinning out, but not from GT5 to GT6! :dopey:

Ugh. Hot Pursuit (2010?) is one of the worst ever. No "feel" at ALL in the handling.

PS2 era NFS games were pretty fun (maybe because I was still in high school at the time) but none of the NFS on PS3 have impressed me at all.
 
I went back and tried Forza 4 ....it felt better and i had forgot how good it was especially with the things you can do when you have finished the competitive racing :rolleyes:
