Does anyone else miss the qualifying before the race for pole position??

I miss it a lot. I always find it a bit odd when racing games just stick you on the grid in random positions, or at the back. Let's hope this gets added one day, but seems a bit too hard to me to just bolt on.

Gt4 I had to qualify almost evry championship race, but gt5 ai do you really need to qualify to win

Standing starts and qualifying would be nice to have back, as well as practice before the race. I used to run a practice lap to make sure I had the setup right, qualify, and then run the race. Kinda like a real race.

This. 👍 I miss the opportunity to test setups before the race.

At least add a qualifying option for championship series.

AI might not be as fast as people hopes, but atleast AI tries to drive clean, which wasnt the thing with previous GT's. This time around it's more about player will he use like 600 hp car against 200 hp AI cars or try to beat em with stock vehicle, ofcourse any game feels too easy if using overpowered cars all the time (like X1 against Le Mans cars, yea true challenge)
But that is what most players does, they go for the WIN, not for the tight race they could actually lose, right ?
The game is more what you make out of it

PD NEEDS to implement qualifying and here's why.

The game encourages you to pick a car that will blow away the competition. Why? Because you start in last place for each race, and have only 3 to 5 laps to make your way all the way to the front. If you try and pick a car that's comparable to the AI competition, you would never make up this many positions in such a short amount of time.

So what's the solution now? Well you pick a car that you THINK is going to make up 12 positions in 3 laps for example, so it's gotta be faster than the AI - but not too fast or it will be a boring time trial by the last lap. Not too slow though, either. So really you're just guessing to pick the right car with the right tuning that will put you in the hunt for first in the last corner. :(

In the future, if PD would implement a qualifying system (and standing starts please!), then you could run a couple laps to see what time's the AI are posting and pick a suitable opponent with similar PP in which you'll have similar lap times.

In my opinion, this would vastly improve the offline racing.

I've also hear people asking for an AI slider like Prologue had - while that might be a nice addition, it's not going to solve the problem I stated. Starting last in every race, with a few short laps to make your way to first, ENCOURAGES lopsided and unrealistic racing.

Qualifying was also a very useful tool for quickly testing the car set-up before going into the race itself, been caught out a few times by forgetting to re-adjust gear ratios etc.
