Does anyone else NOT tune their cars?

I'm curious about this. I see a lot of posts from people that looks like they never actually drive any car in the game stock. They buy it, and immediately dump every upgrade possible into it. Regardless of whether the car in question could actually receive such upgrades in real life.

Granted, I used to be like this, back around GT3.. but I've changed since then. I drive cars for what they are, not what I can make them. I won't tune a car unless absolutely necessary, or if it's a setup that I know exists IRL (in which case it may be slightly tuned, but not all-out), or if it's a car that's just begging for it (classic muscle). And yes, I'll change tires.. that's not tuning, that's common sense.

For example, I read a post the other day where someone complained about the Veyron being too slow off the line. Clearly, this person did... something to the car that made it "slow", because my stock Veyron can utterly destroy practically everything off the line.. the acceleration is downright ludicrous, and it'll be in the lead before the first turn, in every race I've run it in so far.

This car is actually a good example of what I mean.. IRL, the Veyron is at the very limit of what human beings can do to a car given our current state of technology. And yet this game allows you to do more, and by golly, people do it. These are things that simply cannot be done to the real car (or the original designers would already have done it). Think about it.. do you really think you can tweak the Veyron's engine computer to give it some extra power? Do you really think you can go buy a new transmission off the street that won't tear itself apart as soon as you hit the gas?

And people actually ask if we can tune up the X1? Really?

When a drive a Ferrari, I want to drive a Ferrari.. I don't want to drive some souped-up mega-car that happens to look like a Ferrari on the outside, but sure as hell isn't a Ferrari on the inside anymore. The Enzo is an amazing machine all on its own.. it doesn't need anything else.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I mean, it's not like we can't win races. Instead of making our current car go faster, we just buy a faster car. Actually costs less in quite a few cases, too.

I enjoy to tune the normal or little car, not the super car like Jaguar Ferrari Lambo and so on! I enjoy much more a ride on a Civic type R modded on Nurbungring than a ride on a Ferrari or cars that go too fast and u can't handle! The Veyron for me is a sheet car! So i don't mod every car, only the normal or low hp ones!

I am in the same boat. I bought some cars on the used market just to have them and drive them. They won`t recive any upgrades, some may get few extra horsepower but thats about it.
I thought about wings for my Ford GT but i just can`t do it. The Ford GT LM Spec looks great but my GT will stay classic.

I would say many cars drive beautiful the way they are, they won`t win certain races but thats ok for me!
Yesterday i participated in a online Nürburgring race and a BMW 2002 without any upgrades won 1st place against some newer and better cars.

Do you blame me for modding a veyron to race against those le mans beasts. i guess not, i only tune to compete. And the veyron is not on the edge... cos if it was there wouldn't be the ss

The SS isn't a tuned Veyron, it's an entirely different car. It's like saying a ZR-1 is just a tuned version of a regular 'Vette.

And if the Veyron isn't fast enough to cut it against LeMans racers... just consider the fact that the Veryon is a road car. Not a race car. It's not meant to go up against cars like that. So rather than try to turn the car into something it's not, just buy a car that's more applicable to the race in question. Like, oh I don't know.. a LeMans car?

Except my 'slammed' VW bus all of my 120+ cars are stock and will remain stock.

My principle is like this:

1) 1st one I get I keep stock.
2) 2nd one I get I work on its weaknesses for more online fun.

Very new to modding anyway, GT5p I also did not put a lot of time in that.

The tuning takes away the realism from the game, in some cases I believe. I enjoy tuning the slower cars, but there is no point in tuning a ferrari. You cannot improve THAT much on a car engineered almost for perfection, make a Zonda 200 kg's ligher and so on. I think it's ridicilous. Tuning cars is messing with the realistic physics this game provides.

There's a lot you could do to tune a Veyron. Weight reduction is basically removing all the pleasantries and replacing it with a stripped-out interior. Is it 100% carbon? If not you could do that. With respect to the engine, it's designed to be used frequently and for a long time without the attention of professionals. Real racing engines require them to be warmed before starting and expertly maintained and used - this is equivalent to the engine upgrades. I'm sure there's gains to be found in the suspension.

I don't disagree with your point though, I like racing cars as they come, but sometimes you feel you need to level the playing field. Usually I just leave it to a HP boost and better tyres though. I dislike the sound of the racing transmission but sometimes that is necessary for certain tracks.

I always try stock cars (maybe with the oil change HP boost) first and if they aren't cutting it, I'll upgrade with lower cost upgrades to keep money saved.

I like to be frugal.

Blech.. no kidding. I had to put one into my Mach 1 (that's one of those "it's just begging for it" kind of upgradable cars), so that I could get it over 110mph or so. But all I hear is the transmission.. the engine itself sounds like something not of this earth (to quote Clarkson, "the God of Thunder, gargling with nails"), but I can barely hear it. I actually want to take it off whenever I'm just cruising in it and not racing.. when I get some extra cash, I want to see if the sports transmission will give the extra top-end (and not just acceleration), without the noise. With a car like that, the sound is absolutely part of the experience.

i keep HP and weight standard on most cars but I decidied that standard suspension probly wasnt modelled right when I found my ferrari 430 scudera skittering about under breaks from high speed and not arresting speed like I assumed it should. So I get FC suspension for most cars, I mean, theres quite a bit of adjusting you can do to all IRL cars' suspension anyway.
