Does anyone prefer X and Square for gas and brake?

I noticed most racing games on both ps3 and 360 use the triggers for gas and brake. I prefer the X and square buttons instead. Does anyone else do this?

The main reason is that I like r1 as shift up and r2 as downshift. I can't get used to using the L buttons, especially for brake.

That's what I prefer when using the controller - I got used to that when playing the Burnout series and could never get away from it.

I used to use X and Square but from GT4 Onwards i started to use the Back R2 And L2 for Gas and Break on the controller. People thought i was odd doing so but always lets me win a race. Been now practicing more with my DFGT with actual pedals and brake lol

Another button-bashing, X and [] player here.

i just the analog stick for both power/brake and steering. feel its give alot more control over the car. anyone else the same as me?

I use the X and [] buttons. I could never get used to using the analog stick for gas/braking, so I just stick with the buttons. It's kind of hard to regulate the throttle well with TCS off, but I got used to it.

i have to agree
although the buttons are pressure sensitive, i find that you get a higher degree of control with the analog stick

but, i bought a G25 so my controller days have come to an end :sly:

If I use a controller, then its X for accellerator, square for brake, and left analogue to steer.

However I only use a controller when round at mates houses. When at home I use my G25.

I use X and [] for throttle and brake, R1 for shift up, L1 for shift down, and R2 as look behind.

I used the right analogue stick for throttle and brake in GT2, but when the PS2 came along with pressure sensitive buttons I preferred the extra speed with which I could press the buttons and if necessary use the throttle and brake at the same time.

I was like that until GT4, but GT4 punishes overcontrolling so severely that I had to buy a wheel. Since then I've never gone back, though I do play TT with the analog sticks.

I use the X , [] with occasional right joy stick throttle/brake for greater control out of corners. I seriously need to get my basement finished so I can get back on the wheel.

I use the controller X and [] when I don't feel like taking the wheel out.

I also use the [], brake, with the pedals when I'm feeling lazy.

It took me long enough to get used to using the left analogue stick, but using L2 and R2 for brake and accelerator? That's just crazy talk! Besides, I much prefer my wheel.

Hmmm in GT1 and GT2 I used x and [].... then in GT3 and GT4 I moved to using the right stick for gas incombination with [] and R1 and R2 to shift.... just liked it better that way and I can drive like a maniac setup like that ehehhehe but yesterday I purchased a wheel... and I wonder why I didnt do this a LONG time ago... so much nicer... so much more intense... so much more control..... :) I like....

Yes - I always use x and [] as well, and the directional buttons for steering. I could never get used to the sticks (especially for throttle/braking). However, since the majority of vehicles in GT5P seem to be practically undriveable with those buttons (in pro mode of course), I should probably learn to use something else - a wheel is out of the question for me.

I guess I'll try R2/L2 for throttle and x [] for gear changes, but it's going to be tough... :nervous:

Count me in.
DPad for turns, X for acceleration, [] for braking since GT1
R34 on Eiger 15th place - combo I worked on the most.
With other cars always about 2s behind the 1st place - waiting for G25 to get cheaper.

Me too.
X and [] since the very first game I've played (was it on the SuperNes ?).

It's becoming a bit of a problem though on Forza 2 : I haven't enough control on the braking pressure and can't drive without ABS.
Gotta get used to L2 and R2 if I want to shave off the last tenths.

Epic yes. I cannot play using the triggers. I wanted so bad to get into NFS:PS (Though I hear I'm not missing much), but I couldn't play it with the controls offered to save my life.

This is all you ;) I've tried tons of combos for shifting, but I always end up at R2 up, L2 down.

Kinda like paddle shifters, right for up, left for down.

I've used the X and square since PS1 came out.
Once I learned this, I found it difficult to convert to analog sticks.

I'll probably buy a wheel (G25?) for christmas. (From santa to me...!?):dopey:

Another X and [] guy here. I also use the same R1 and R2 setup you do, and mostly for the same reasons.

I have used manual gears from day one, having learned that R1/R2 setup after playing Rage Racer (yeah, I know!) . To complete that game you were forced to race manual transmission cars - there was no automatic option. you couldn't remap the buttons on that game, but you could choose from a number of presets - one of those presets had the gears on the R1/R2 buttons.

There is also a historical precedence with the use of manual transmission within car games. It was pretty much common in arcade racing games like Daytona USA, the Original Ridge Racer (which even had a fully working clutch pedal), and Hard Drivin. Manual cars used to be generally faster than automatic cars, but with the arrival of Gran Turismo, that advantage dissappeared. I would like to know why PD chose not to honour that.
