Does anyone use exhaust systems other than Racing Exhaust?

I remember when a fully tuned Caterham 7 Fireblade put out more HP with a semi-racing exhaust then with racing exhaust in GT4 (that was because of the Displacement tuning though if I'm not wrong). Wonder if some cars have this in GT5 as well?

Too late!

But I don't really care about how it sounds, as long as I get first place.

For me, being a sound-designer, and knowing very well how different engine configurations of engine should sound like, it really annoys me when a Corvette with a Crossplane V8 sounds like this:

When it should sound like this:

:(:(

The fact that PD have never got this particular car's sound right since GT3 makes me think they're fooling with us:irked:

Nope. I only use stock, unless the sound is fixed by another exhaust type(which is very rare). Most sound samples are totally wrong, why ruin the other good half with fake sounds that don´t go with the car? A Viper sounding like a big V8? A Corvette sounding like a V6? An M5 or an LFA sounding like an undescribable loud engine of some sort? An RX7 sounding like a six cylinder? And I could go on...

So no... I stay with the stock exhaust in 90% of my cars...

You deffinitly know what you´re talking about! I´m also very knowledgeable when it comes to know how diffent engine configurations should sound like, and I feel betrayed everytime I get a new Gran Turismo after waiting so long, and then realizing that although the sound effects are improved, the sound samples are still the same rubbish. PD should realize that sound is very important to most of us... Too bad I´m no sound designer... Someone like you is what PD needs for the sound dept.

I love the TVR Tuscan RM, and it sounds okay for a straight-6, though it still lacks some of the grumble you'd expect from a modded exhaust, check the vid below:

Also try the Ferrari one-make race with b-spec. You get different cars with different cylinder configurations, yet 90% of them have the same generic sound:banghead:

Rare examples of a Titanium Racing Exhaust sounding like it should are the Camaro Z28 '69 RM, and the Elise 111R RM.

sometimes when I dont want to spoil the original sound of the cars.. usualy some classics. even when I know that it might not be the real sound of the car.. the power of mind beats me :D

PS nice videos.. sound in GT is very good. but when I see those viseos in comparison I realize how bad sound is.. but the problem is mostly in GT sound is very sterile... in real life video there is alot of different sounds around.. not just a poor TV sound with clean engine "rrrrrrr - n - rrrrrrr" going, taken by camera.. :) in my house with 5.1 that V8 sounds insane.. still not like real, I know.

I don't bother with aftermarket bits. At most an airfilter and customizable suspension and gearbox. For the rest I drive stock.

If I need a faster car, I buy a faster car.

very good example how people should play online! 👍

PS. still some cars like old japanese FR cars need to be tuned for drift or race, Stock for them just isnt right :)

Well said! I ussually do the same mods to my cars, except for the suspension and gearbox. Unless its needed, of course...

Yer, i can see the slight difference there, why I never rm'd the vette or camaro ss before

Sports exhaust on Holden Monaro and Ferrari F40. Strangely, the two sound exactly the same (nice one PD) but both sound better than with any other exhaust.

An absolutely traumatic experience with the racing exhaust on an F430 Scuderia, not to mention an underwhelming experience with the racing exhaust on a Murcielago SV, proved to me that yeah, I should give other exhausts a chance.

I don't know when I'll be making those changes though.

^ Once I discovered how lazy PD were when it came to exhaust recording (ie. they only recorded the stock exhaust and just made up the others) I started buying every system for each new car I bought. That way I can try all 4 (including stock) and jutt pick the one that sounds the best, even if it means sacrificing horsepower.

I don't care if my lamborghini is down by 30hp, if it doesn't sound like a Lamborghini I may as well be driving a Honda Civic (albeit a very fast Honda Civic :))

Now that's an American V8!

^You can see the difference:D

A flatplane V8 should sound more similar to an I4 (which you can see from the Ferrari F430, F40 and 458).

Crossplane V8's have the distinct grumble usually associated with American V8s.

The Z06 C6 RM is utter:yuck: Same with the Viper ACR.

Compare the Camaro SS RM and the Z28 RM to see the difference:ouch:

I've posted this video comparison before, and I'll do so again:sly: (Real in-car footage starts at 30sec)

Oh how I wish that GT would sound like that someday:(

Most exhaust systems don't really give you that much of an HP difference to really matter in the long run (with the exception of the cat and header swap) so I go with what sounds more authentic and if that means stock so be it.

For the Impreza 22B, WRX type R STi ver. VI, Legacy RSK and Blitzen, I use semi-racing exhasts to bring out the "boxer rumble". Sounds awesome. You won't get the boxer rumble using any other exhaust

I buy the titanium racing exhaust first but if it sounds poor or generic I will then fit a semi-racing exhaust but if this doesn't sound right then I fit sports and if this sounds wrongs I keep it stock. It's all about the sound for me.

You also won't get the rumble w/ an equal length header, does that make it less realistic?

Yes you will lose the rumble by changing to EL from UEL, but what does it have to do with this thread? Was merely pointing out that I use semi-racing exhausts to bring out the boxer rumble. Never mentioned anything being less realistic, just the fact that you won't get the rumble with stock, sports or racing exhausts.

From what I´ve heard in most cases sound-wise it´s better to stick to the sports, respectively the semi-race. I can remember the LFA having the most sweetest sound with the stock unit.

I do use it quite a bit to max out cars, but I have to admit that all cars with race exhaust sound like a dying squirrel when you hit the rev limiter... Some cars sound ok and some sound terrible....

I only tend to buy the sport exhaust for my cars, it doesn't mess up the engine sound as much as a racing exhaust does. In some cases, the sport exhaust makes the car sound better than it does with a stock exhaust, such as the Jaguar S-Type R.

Although I have bought the racing exhaust for some of the cars in my garage when I was in the early stages of the game, I rarely ever apply it to my cars when i'm racing.

The race exhaust gives you tons of high end power so its usually one of the first things I install in my 450pp street cars, followed by the cat.

I agree that it sounds like crap on most cars but at least it makes the car loud enough to hear it over the cars around you (i typically race with bumper cam since most of my cars are standard and not premium).

One car that sounds totally off is the Mazda RX-8. I've heard these in real life and they scream down the track. 9,500 rpm is ear piercing yet in-game the car has a slight whistle to its sound but otherwise is indistinguishable from any other car.
