Does Building A Spec points = replayability

Uncle Harry
How many people will re run races once they get the 200 points for that race?

The major difference to me seems certain people prefer driving close races and other people who like driving fast and winning the races in the fastest possible times.

For GT5 could PD implement a points based system that also added on extra points for winning by 5 seconds, more for 10 seconds and so on to better cater for players that prefer to drive a fast car way out in front. Would that suit both style of GT players?

Well that would be better than the current system; Nevertheless I would prefer driving against equal rivals all the time, whcih means they have to drive cars with almost the same specs ... It should not be possible to dirve a 900 hp car against 5 300 hp cars... is that realistic? Have a look at any motorsport ( F1, Indy, Nascar, Rallye, GT, Le Mans, JGTC, etc etc etc) you will never find rules like in GT4...

It forces me to drive underpowered cars if I don't want to have a boring start-finish 1st place win.... So if I want competition I have do drive low powered ones...
Why should I want 200 Aspec points? For what ? I want to beat the game and I don't like games that are too easy... Take my Splinter Cell example, stealth is only half the fun if it is only an option... if it is a must I am motivated, same goes with races, I want hard races with equal cars and not chosen hard races because I drive 150 hp car against a 300 hp car... I have 100+ racing games (all orginal, no copies) for over 12 consoles, many racing games from Japan that are not even published ( and never will be) outsinde Asia... I play racing games longer than GT exists and I love the series, but GT4 is just not motivating for me... I mean perhaps I want to beat the 4WD cup with a 500 hp Nissan Skyline... but the rivals still drive their 250 hp cars? What can I do? Driving a car I don't want to and have competion, or I drive my Skyline and see my rivals only at the start..., at the moment I play Enthusia, C1 Racing Battle ( Genki, release this month in Japan) is already preordered and maybe I come back to GT4 someday... to be honest...chances are good that this one wil be the first GT I don't finish... 👎
In terms of balanced gameplay, there are a ton of better racing games....

I can see your point mate, all you are saying is that if you choose to race a 500bhp car , then you would hope that the game matches your mount with equivalent cars.
Actually, this is a good point, but would have completely negated the a-spec points system.

I can't even complete the game, getting 200 A-Spec points for each race will be so hard. I am at 99.8% with like 15,000 A-Spec points..

I'm actually trying to get my a-spec points up a bit, at about 54%, but only 10,000 or so a-spec, been leaving too much to bob b-spec I guess.

That's what got me started on my A-spec quest. I finished the game, looked at my stats at B-spec Bob had more miles than me. A lot more. So I thought - "Since when do I spend £40 on a game and then let my PS2 play it instead of me?" That's like buying a big portion of fish and chips and giving them to the fat bloke down the street!

A month later and I'm satisfied I got my money's worth.

I have now completed the game 100 % with a fairly low A spec score.
I since re run some races for 200 points and increased my A spec score from 25000 to 27000.
The tedious work of finding a competitive car (read slow) and then driving it to win 200 points is not very conductive to replay value in my opinion. I much prefer re running series as per GT3 to get the next 3 prize cars.

Once a decent car is found it usually means a lot of races only need to be run only once more to get the 200 points.

GT3 had the option of using simulation tyres - apparently driving on them was a whole new ball game - I wouldn't know because I never used them - why the hell would I? Now GT4 has given me an incentive to use them sometimes - I don't have to use them but there will be a reward if I do.

There are some bugs in the formula! Surprize surprize! FMD. Some slacker wrote the wrong weight for the RAM - does not mean the eqation is no good. The equation breaks down at the extreme ends of the scale making it a pain for some races - it would be impossible to develop anything that could cope with the number of possible combinations given the limitations imposed on the system.

Just as a matter of interest - what games are there that have greater replayability than GT4 (not including 1, 2 & 3). I have already gotten more value out of this game than any other I have owned and I am only at 40%.

Wow... I see a few pissy people aboutv the A-Spec points.

Consider this. Generally, if you get less than 40pts on a race, it was an easy win. The A-Spec system isn't perfect, but normally, an equally matched car gives you 60 spec points. Because the AI opponents are rather dumb, 100+ points are not too difficult to get per race.

Anyone who considers a 10 point or less win a good race should reconsider their skills at driving. Races that only offer weak points are simply not a challenge!

Myself, before I could afford a broad viriety of cars, I had several races I only recieved 10-40 spec points, and even only 1 on a few. Since, I have been re-racing them to get as many spec points as I can. I still only have 1 spec point on the MR challenge, because I haven't reraced it after buying the Ford GT for it.

After reracing many races, I now have almost 50,000 pts at about 48% completion. Part of the challenge is finding the car and settings to win with and get healthy points.

many races, you cannot get 200 pts. I took a Saleen S7 and ran it on the 24HR Ring not only for a seconf Formula car, but to dirty it's oul and reduce it's HP. The game would still only give me 197 A-Spec points for the Saleen Club race with N1 Tires and 200 ballst, but wow... I cannot manage the Saleen on N1 tires. The damn thing is hard enough to drive compared to other cars to begin with! I wonder if I can run the HP down far enough to drive with S2 tires and be offered 200 points?

There is nothing UnderPowered about some of the races, getting high spec points. In the Extreem event, take the TVR Speed 12 tuned to 1136 HP, S2 tires, and 10KG ballast for 200 spec points, and it is still not a challenging race for me.

I think rerunning the events still has replay ability. Remember, there's still many other colors to get.

Funny you said that. I was thinking of posting the same thing as I was reading along. Not too long ago I reran the Club-RE series that someone had mentioned they had won a black RX7 LM. So now I have it too. I've reran that Lotus Classics race a couple of times and still don't have an Elan in a good looking color. LOL

Nothing underpowered about some of the races?/? Ever tried getting 122pts in 2CV racing? Or howabout 200pts for the Nissan "Micra Brothers" racing?? Best I've got is 200-200-149. Need I mention the Japanese 70's races - a modified Honda Step Life Van?

The only reason you had an easy time to 200pts in the Speed 12 because it was a no-brainer, top-speed only race (I'd like to see you corner a 1136bhp Speed 12 on S2 tyres - it wheelspins in a straight line for a start)

As for "10pts = you can't drive" a) try not to tell people they can't drive even if they can't b) I got thrashed for 3pts before. I've said this in my previous post - 600bhp Merc SL500 at Legend of Silver Arrow. Could not beat that SLR at all. I have improved my skill since, and I have a better weapon at my disposal, but still, there are some races where you will have your teeth handed to you on a plate.

A-spec points are replayability - and anyone who's added ballast to their car and got "199pts" displayed on the screen knows what I mean.
