does my PS2 can play Japanese games?

my PS2 is US version but i want to buy some games from Japan is that works? because GT4 come out at Japan 12/30/2003 so i want to buy it,but my friends said that if my PS2 is US version can't play Japanese game is that true???

If your PS2 is a US unit, then it cannot play Japanese games. If you want to play Japanese games on a US PS2, you need a mod chip.

the PSX's used a converter that cost about 60 dollars. i dont know about ps2's. i dont play imported games.

a modchip is a chip who can :
- read all regions CD/DVD games ps2 or Copies
- read all regions CD games ps1 or Copies
- read Dvd or Copies (i dunno)

if you wanna buy a modchip, i suggest you to buy the "messiah pro 2"

Why does everyone usually suggest this?
It isn't the best chip on the market. DMS3 is the best out there and it costs only a bit more than the Messiah2 but DMS3 is the only chip you can upgrade.

YOu should get someone good to install it cause if the person installs it bad...ur PS2 won't work as well as it it did before...For playing copy cd games...um....i think u need a really special mod chip.

the weird thing with my PS2 i copied a DVD from a buddy and it played on my PS2 without a hitch.I used the Memorex DVD+R Disc and something called DVD-Cloner
