Does not using assists make you go faster??

I' ve seen tha the top guys in special events or online races do not use assists, (like active steering, ASM, Skid Recovery force) is that because they are better drivers and want more realism or is it because some of these assists make your driving more stable yet slower?

Skid Recovery Force makes you faster, all the others don't. Other assists can even slow in down in certain cars and situations and ASM will slow you down a lot.

I dare say this is depending on your driving style. If you spin out in every corner except when using driving aids, you should use them. If you can keep the car under control without, stop using them.

SRF is the only one that will make you faster, assuming that you can drive well without the aids. TCS, and ASM cut power or brake for you which slows you down. The aids usually interfere before they really need to.

If you practice without aids, you'll see your lap times drop below your times with aids on.

Actually I am 3.5 seconds faster in Laguna Seca when using ASM

So you answered your question for yourself personally :dopey:

But don't forget to retest yourself from time to time, if your driving style improved in a way it will be the other way round 💡

on ds3, i find that if i turn everything off (ABS: 1) i drive faster and it is way more fun, but when i get my wheel things will change....alot

The reason for this is that you are sliding too much when not using ASM. Likely you are mashing the throttle too hard when exiting corners. The trouble with ASM is that if you use it regularly you will never learn how to apply throttle when exiting a corner. The next time you drive without ASM try easing in to the throttle when exiting a corner and don't get fully on the gas until you are pointing straight. It seems counterintuitive, but often going slower can make you faster.

If you're a good driver, it should help your lap times to have those assists removed. If you make mistakes often, you might want to keep those assists on.

Practicing with ALL assists OFF will make you ineveitably , the fastest.
I still remember twisting my training wheels upright (not touching the ground) and I pedaled faster than ever before!

on GT5:Prologue i used to drive Suzuka with the tuned Viper alot. From time to time i removed the aids partially and with every assist removed and some training i always got a better time.

My driving improved dramatically when I did the above. I highly reccomend it. Get comfortable with no aids will make you faster, even if you go back to using them again ( I did not)

Also, I've done a number of tests with ABS and stopping distance is actually shorter without it. ABS will allow you to break easier in a corner which is useful sometimes but I seldom use it and when I do setting it to 2 is plenty.

i started with SRF on, TCS 5, ABS 1, and everything else off.

i gradually lowered TCS as i progressed in the game.

i am now at SRF on, ABS 1, everything else off. DS3 btw. 👍

Your car has potential to better by not using TCS and ASM. I always set ABS to 1 since it's helpful to have, I never use ASM or TCS and SRF is stupid and should be removed from the game. Don't use it since you'll end up depending on it, and if you race online you'll find that it is usually disabled. I never used it.

The thing is I use traction control at 2 because otherwise I get smoked off the line b/c I'm spinning rubber. Anyone have advice about launching without aids? Otherwise I think driving without traction control is more comfortable for me, but it seems helpful in a stable takeoff. I wish online races had a rolling start or a pace lap...just curious, I think the people I race with use mild traction control as well (and isn't it used in real race cars?). Not to derail but I think this sort of ties into the "are you faster" question.

They don't make you go faster but they don't slow you down. I.E. Traction Control. It actually limits the engine to keep you from spinning if it detects the tires about to spin because you're giving it too much throttle out of a turn especially. Learn to drive with the assists off and you'll record your fastest times (eventually).

It depends on the assist and situation.

SRF on is always faster and ASM off is always slower.

TCS though, it depends on your skills. No TCS is faster, but with higher powered cars, if you do not have enough skill and precision to totally control throttle, use the TCS.

it doesn't detect spinning it works with steering, TCS of 1 will let you launch without spinning and still spin out in corners, try turning the TCS up to 10 and watch as your throttle is automatically cut off when making even wide turns, the lower the number the less interference in turns

Is it just me or are lot more people using srf online? I wish the assists were not available online, loads of lobbys full of noobs with assists on, traction control is ok but the rest are like swimming with arm bands on as far as I am concerned. Srf should have no place in a game like gt5, if you want that sort of kids game get shift 2.

You can filter those lobbies out.

Traction control will definitely slow you down.

I for one cannot stand this power cutoff when I demand to have it, Especially when driving 550HP+ cars. Therea re times you want to power out of a turn with confidence, and TCS > 0 spoils it all.

All Aids off.

If you're using a very powerful car, try launching in second or third gear. This helps a lot, its much better than launching with traction control on.
