I don't know how I found this but I'm just wondering if this virus is true and if it still exists. The web link is youareanidiod.org .

If it does exist is it harmful to the computer? If it isn't I'm going to give it to one of my friends at school because it will annoy the :D .

I heard on some comments that OS's like windows 7 have solved the problem but I'm not sure.

Also on the same friend I have found a prank to do to him as well. The prank is to get him to play the "scary maze game" look it up on YouTube. It will be funny seeing how he reacts :D .

Checking on VMware.

Please hold

That was a typing mistake. Thanks for telling me.

This is apparently what this site does:

Spam: [No]

Adware, spyware or viruses: [Yes], It downloads a trojan onto your computer and gives you a "BSOD", short for "Blue Screen of Death". It also jacks up your computer by disabling the use of the Alt, Delete, Control, or F4 buttons. Simply right-click your taskbar and select Task Manager, or shut down your PC/Laptop.

Excessive popups: [Varying on your browser] (On firefox, the page will be blocked, and almost no popups occur.) On IE (Internet Explorer) or Google Chrome, there will be pop-ups that multiply until you get that BSOD. Press the power button immediately before you get spammed by those pop-ups, or right click your taskbar and select "Task Manager", then end the process of either "chrome.exe" or "ie.exe".

Phising or other scams: [No]

Bad shopping experiences: [The site is not a shopping spree site.]

Browser exploit: [YES], it changes your homepage to "youareanidiot.org", and it installs a trojan to your desktop while playing a repeated, annoying song over thousands of times. Then, when you manage to close the window, it opens up 3 windows of the same page and then multiplies.

I feel sorry for anyone who visited youareanidiot.org.

You can watch many youtube videos of the website. If you are unprotected it will open tons of windows, overload your cpu and ram, and which would attempt to bsod your computer.

Can't believe this thread is still around. It sounds like gt5 fan had wanted to give it to someone with the intent of ruining someones day.

That is fake.

Plus my VM XP has no updates and i used base IE, no issues.

So you visited the site? It might have had the virus removed. But it isn't fake because the site report clearly says it exploits your browser and makes millions of pop-ups appear on your screen.

I ran XP SP3 with no updates and IE6 with no updates, but latest plug-ins in a VM on that site.

Browser exploits work by using outdated flash, java and other add-ons, keep them up-to-date and no issues will arise.

And McAfee SiteAdvisor is a product from McAfee which really is one of the worst Anti-Viruses out their.

What do you mean by VM? And how do I know if I have the latest versions of flash and java?

How about we use this as a base.

And we'll go to here. http://hosts-file.net/?s=youareanidiot.org

Seems like a perfectly safe site now doesn't it?

VM is short for Virtual Machine. It's a computer you run virtually inside a physical one which thinks has it's own processor, ram, and hard disk space. You can always visit abobe's flash site for the latest updates and java.com for the latest java updates.

Norton Websafe is a site where users and comment on sites if they are good and have viruses(Similar to McAfee Site Advisor).

So you can say anything about them, if a user got banned from GTP they can say "This site is full of viruses and the site sucks"

It is not checked and just gets posted and nothing is really done about it.

It also does check the sites contents for all forms of threats, but the average joe who doesn't know what a cookie is will look at the comments and get turned away by them.

Norton is a fine anti-virus you could do worse.

McAfee is the worst paid.
Trend is just crap since they went with a Windows Firewall Booster(Boosting 🤬 does not make it any better).
AVG is a bad free one but their are a lot of free anti-virus out their that are more worse.

^ Ahh I see.

Yeah, Norton is OK I guess, but I've had endless trouble with it on my Grandma's PC. Bad compatibility issues with her particular version of Vista (that's bad in itself), and the interface was poor for grandma's likings. We have since moved to Karapasky.

Same, I run Kaspersky Carbon Edition 2010.

I use Avast free Anti-virus and it even found viruses that a top-end paid Nortan Anti-Virus could not find. I also know about McAfee, one of the worst Anti-virus I've seen so far. I also know about AVG too, interface is annoying and never gave me the protection I needed. At least many Anti-Virus programs like Avast do auto update these days.

You mean Microsoft Defender? That one did not work for my friend's Dell laptop. A virus got through due to the fact he never updated it. Plus microsoft said it's not a replacement for a real-time anti-virus like Kaspersky or Avast.

Microsoft Security Essentials "MSE" for short. I used to put it on Customer's computers when they no longer wanted to pay for their AV's. It, coupled with Malware Bytes, is one of the strongest free solutions available to any user. Though if you want to go with paid AV, go with ESET, it's on a whole different level.

@Grayfox, Web of Trust may be like those other sites, but it does a much better job of protecting you, the reviews are all made with your safety in mind, and you can report a biased review and have it removed if it is a false rating.

Lasty, @ gt5 fan. Take a look at this portion of the AUP, "You will not behave in an abusive and/or hateful manner, and will not harass, threaten, nor attack any individual or any group."

What you wanted to do, but since decided to not do. Is against the AUP. Good job.

Just found this on youtube while looking at youareanidiot.org videos, LOL  :
