I'm really curious to know if turning off the music while racing helps you drive better. I would try it out but I don't wanna spend like 15 minutes turning off all the race music.

For me I like music because it pumps me up at times and gets my adrenaline flowing which helps me drive better, but without the music i feel like you could actually hear your own car better as well as cars around you. Does it help or not?

Depends on the individual, the music, what (if any) drugs you're on etc, etc..

Personally, I find it depends on my mood at the time.

It is the first think I turn off in Audio options :) And I do it for all racing/flying games

I want to hear the engine(s), sound effects, revs, etc, 👍

Personal Pref... but I've turned off all music. Less distraction, and you can hear more of the tires, car, other cars...

But I'm old.

Yes. Without the ability to hear the tires, you won't know whether you can push the car harder.

Agreed with everything on here. You have more concentration on what you are doing around the track instead of jamming to your favorite song & accidentely crashing lol.

Yes , it does make you more aware of the audio from the car(s) and that nice limit reaching tyre squeal you get. :)

You don't have to disable them one by one , there's an option where you can turn them off and disable them with one button . I think it's in the gear cog game options button.

Oh ya? Ill check tonight when I'm home. I do crash quite a bit while racing and my music is a little louder then the sound effects. I'll check to find that one button to turn off all the music.

^^This. The only music I've ever heard in GT5 is the menu BGM. I turned Racing and Replay BGM off from day 1.

Personally im not a fan of the ingame music. But when im playing the long races and not listening to any music i feel kind of "Forever alone" :D
So normally when im playing im just turning the radio on or so and listen to some quality music instead of the ingame crap ;)

Emphatic yes! Especially when the song is (don't know the name) the one heavy-metal-ish song where the dude is screaming "blah blah blah ... LIGHTNING, blah blah blah, LIGHTNING!!!." And then I wreck the car.

I don't know for sure how to "disable" the music, but if you can't find it, you can do what I did and just turn off the volume in the general options.

I always have the background music turned off in all my racing games. The only time I will listen to music is during the endurance races, then I'll throw some Zeppelin on the stereo and listen until my wife tells me to shut up because she's going to bed.

Custom Soundtrack is your best friend. :dopey:

I just turned off the background music about a month ago. My lap times have increased slightly but more importantly my consistency has gotten far better. :)
And I'm pretty sure it's not through practice because I don't play as nearly as I used to - only on the weekends now.

I noticed a slight difference. I mainly turned it off so I could hear the car though.

Very first thing I did with the sound is turn off in race music. Call me a purist or whatever, but all I want to hear is the sound of the exhaust when I'm racing. If I wanted music I'd be driving around in my own car or truck...lol.

I did the same.

I turn on usually, it helps me not concentrate on the driving.
For some reason I can only drive when I'm not caring

I have mine turned off ever since the update that disabled the ability to listen to music off your harddrive.

Yes and no. Some songs may distract me, but when listening to my music I usually get the surge of adrenaline and end up pushing the car to it's limit...and thensome :O.

I don't really mind, I like having a bit of music to lighten up the lawnmower ZR1 engine. I mean if the sounds of cars were a bit more realistic, I'd definitely have music off without a doubt.

With this game, I need to keep music on or else I'll fall asleep.

If you've never rocked 'Danger Zone' in an LMP at the Nordschleife, you're not doing it properly ;)

Aviators and baby oil optional. Cheesy grin mandatory 👍

I have the music on, but I set it quite low. Besides, I usually play music/radio outside of the game, and that I always have the TV's volume set pretty low so I don't bother my family. But at some moments where I need an engine scream ringing my ear drums, a high volume is mandatory 👍

Real race car drivers don't listen to the radio in the car. So I guess it depends on how "sim" you're going. I prefer it off, even with the crappy engine sounds of GT5 :D

It makes me race a lot better because I can hear what RPM my car is at clearly and to hear tire squeal to let me know if I am inducing oversteer or understeer. Those are the two most important reasons as to why I have the race music turned off, not to mention I would rather hear my Lotus sing to me. :sly:

Edit: It also, like you mentioned helps me hear other cars around me.
