Does turning off "Race" music help you drive better?

I had to quit my 1st race to turn the in race music off. Makes the game feel so arcadey and I can't hear the engine properly.

Custom soundtrack only during replays and B-Spec for me. I need to hear the car and road noises to drive better. :p

Yes it probably would, but as I usually have music or the radio on when I play it's kind of a mute point.👍

I have mine turned off ever since the update that disabled the ability to listen to music off your harddrive.

What update is this?

Anyway, I'd get bored without background music. I have 8 hours worth (and not everything I want) on the HDD to play, and it helps me. Fast music makes you drive quicker, and it helps me concentrate.

(And if you say you turn the music off to hear the car, I need your sound system. I can hardly hear the music over the noise of the car, and that's with it turned up and the car turned down)

It makes me race a lot better because I can hear what RPM my car is at clearly and to hear tire squeal to let me know if I am inducing oversteer or understeer. Those are the two most important reasons as to why I have the race music turned off, not to mention I would rather hear my Lotus sing to me. :sly:

Edit: It also, like you mentioned helps me hear other cars around me.

+1

I will leave it on for replays and sometimes for B-Spec.

I turned off in-game music, but I often listen to music in my PC while I'm driving, so I can control the volume and if I need to listen to the engine, I can lower the volume, and even because in my PC there are 20 GB pf music and I have more choice :)

I just turned off the background music about a month ago. My lap times have increased slightly but more importantly my consistency has gotten far better. :)
And I'm pretty sure it's not through practice because I don't play as nearly as I used to - only on the weekends now.
That's a scary thought.
I always used to turn off race bgm but for some reason I've left it on for GT5. Gonna haveta turn it off now.

For me, no.

Listening to music actually helps me drive better since i'm able to concentrate on the song and the race at hand (if that makes sense  )
